So Acathla and I are due for cellphone upgrades. And while out with Mom all day we spent some of the time looking at different phones. We have ATT family plan already so we wanna stick with that. We started at ATT, but also looked at Costco, Radioshack and Best Buy 'Mobile' ( <- @the mall ( Read more... )

If you want to use the internet the first thing I'm gonna do is aim you towards the smartphones. I speak from experience when I say that the data plans are worth it, because while some feature (basic) phones have the ability to use the net, they do not really do it well.

You want to read fic, listen to music, and take pictures. You also use Twitter, so you'll probably want an app for that. Again, this makes me lean more towards smartphone for you.

What you really, really need to know about cell phones? In most cases you really do get what you pay for, and I would recommend against a phone that is $1 or less every single time except on Black Friday ( ... )

I'm kinda leaning towards smartphones myself strictly on the basis that next time I upgrade there'll probably not even be much of an option and I might as well get use to what the new standard will be ( ... )

The music is what will be the biggest drain on the battery, so you'll extra want to make sure you've got something with a decent talk time (six hours MINIMUM) on any phone you get.

The Vivid (in my area, at least) is $49.99 and even though that sounds like a lot it is really good for a cell phone, especially that kind. I would beg Mom, or try to work out some kind of trade with her to try and get that. Because if you get the free phones, my experience both in owning them and working at a cell phone company tells me that you will have so many problems you might not be able to last the full two years on it, and might have to spend significantly more to replace it mid-contract ( ... )

I don't know much about any of these stuff so I'm just going to say basic phones are the best and I stongy dislike smart phones until you plan on using the internext stuff. I have a friend with a smart phone but he never does anything but text or call so he's just wasting money...I love my basic phone but either way, have fun and find a good fit for you

Me neither I know crap all about tech these days. My mom has a smartphone tho and originally I thought she waws an idiot for getting one because I didn't think she'd use it for anything but calls and texts but surprisingly she does. She uses the facebook app all the time and several others too.

Do you mind me asking what kind of basic phone you have? I love my green Pantech but it's starting to have tiny issues and I'm due for the upgrade soooo new phone. Here's hoping I find one that is indeed a GOOD fit!!

If you use it then it's good it's when you don;t that it's dumb to have a smart phone. I'll never use it so I don't have one.

as for what my phone is, it's a Samsung (Verizon) and I think it's the Gusto or something like that. I got it about 9 months ago and it doesn't have it's model name or number on it. sorry, but it was the only non smart flip phone they had I think.
