and the walls came tumbling down

D and I saw The King's Speech downtown last night: good movie, very nice performance by Colin Firth. We walked by 335 Yonge afterwards to observe the demolition - the entire North-facing wall (along Gould) is gone as well as much of that half of the building, exposing a great deal of damage inside. Global Entry has actually been free for NEXUS members for a while -- see, for example, the bottom of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11212456-post34.html

It used to be you actually had to apply for Global Entry after getting NEXUS and you'd get immediate approval (for free), but as far as I can tell, you don't even have to do that now.

I actually ended up getting NEXUS during a recent trip to Seattle (where there's an interview location), even though what I really wanted was Global Entry, but NEXUS was cheaper.

Wow - I've asked Customs people about this several times and none of them gave me that information. Ah well. And yes, you apparently don't have to apply for Global Entry any more, since DHS gave it to me without any asking/applying on my part.
