Challenge #18: The Way I See It

Jan 29, 2012 20:02

They told her not to come, but there she was, their oldest daughter, as stubborn as ever. As her mother was being discharged from the hospital, she had diligently read all the forms and accompanying documents about her mother’s new dietary limitations. Walking through the grocery store, she proclaimed, despite her mother’s protestations, that her mother couldn’t have this, but she could have that. Now, as he watched her put the freshly purchased groceries away in the kitchen, he couldn’t help but wonder where his little girl had gone. Surely, this transformation hadn’t happened over night, but he didn’t fully recognize this adult woman standing before him. He wasn’t sure if he just hadn’t seen this side of her before or if he had neglected to see the person she was becoming. Either way, he tried to convince himself, what was important now was that he was seeing her now, that he was seeing what a strong woman she had become.
