“Can I come in?” he asked.

“Uh, yeah,” she answered, taken aback by his unexpected appearance.

“I-I just had to see you,” he said as he stepped through the threshold. She didn’t know what to say. It was both terribly sweet and awkwardly pathetic at the same time.

“You, you don’t like me very much, do you?” He sounded disappointed by her lack of response.

“No-no, it’s not that. I-I’ve just been busy,” she stammered. It wasn’t true, but she didn’t know how to say what she should say. She wasn’t sure that she should say what she wanted to say, either. She did, in fact, like him. Maybe too much, considering they had only gone out a few times. Wounds from past relationships and society’s fouls prevented her lips from moving as her heart cried out at the idea that this man could think she didn’t want him when she ached to be with him.

Some day, she wanted to say, some day I will marry you.
