Bobby looked up from his food and his book, several emotions running through him as he saw who it was. "Go ahead," he said with a sigh and a wave of his hand, turning back to his book. Not that he thought there was really any chance John wasn't going to strike up a conversation, but maybe, just maybe he'd take the hint.

John lay down his tray of food, and then unhooked his satchel from around his neck, leaning it against a table leg. Lifting the flap, he took a couple of first year politics textbooks from his satchel and laid them next to his tray, only acknowledging Bobby with a cursory grunt.

Sitting, he picked out a pen from a pencil case and started to diligently take some notes, occasionally stopping to be the image of a most studious (if voracious) college kid.

Bobby was tense at first, waiting for John to start talking, but as a few minutes passed without comment he relaxed a little, though his attention was divided. It was hard to concentrate on his school work with John sitting next to him.

"...How are your classes going?" he asked after a minute, sitting up straight and focusing on his food instead of his textbook.

"Oh, cool," John said after a moment, fidgeting for a second once he'd put down his sandwich. "Pol Sci, Cultural Studies, History...All interesting ways to look at the system." He allowed himself a brief smile. "Yours?"
