Apparently, it was time to do a bit of patrolling, and this Watcher and his Slayer were going to have some company. At least, I supposed, I was more than aware that Bethany was capable of handling herself, particularly if, as she said, she'd developed an even greater degree of control over her abilities. And so, the three of us soon found

Let's just gloss over the fact that I've got lousy aim.
"M'Fashnik demons. No pushovers."
And here I was, thinkin' Wes had acquired some cool. Guess I spoke too soon. "Geek," I muttered, not caring who heard me. Wasn't important right now, anyway. We had demons to slay! I really liked the sound of that, whether I wanted to admit it or not. This was exciting. Because... well, damn. These guys had scales. Scales! Scales were exciting! Well, indirectly ( ... )

I hopped outta the jeep as quickly as I could. Hadda get this outta my system soon. I cracked my knuckles and rolled my neck. Damn, when was the last time I'd gone out hunting just for fun?
"How do we kill them, huh?"
"Like this," I grinned eagerly as I ran down an alleyway, not waiting for Wes or Bethy to follow me as I turned a corner, ready to jump one of 'em when I saw a figure already fighting it.
Fucker.
"Hey! You!" I yelled, walking up closer into the shadows, "Stay the fuck away from him! He's mine, I'm calling fucking dibs!"
The hell happened to manners nowadays, anyways?

If there was one thing I had always been good at, it was being straight with myself.
I was hiding. Fighting too, if you wanted to make a point of it. Which I did every damn night. I made a point every night to go out and beat something up a lot more so I could beat myself up a little less ( ... )

"Well--"
"Like this... Hey! You! Stay the fuck away from him! He's mine, I'm calling fucking dibs!"
"Oh, for God's sake," I said, exasperated. It didn't particularly matter that of all three of us, Faith was the one who could physically afford to go charging headlong into a fight with a handful of M'Fashniks. But it did illustrate for me how much work was ahead of us in the realm of teamwork.
I turned to Bethany as I walked quickly into the alley behind Faith.
"Stay well back from the fighting. It should give you the most opportunity to use your power from long range."
A few more steps, and I saw the three demons, Faith, and the woman Faith had been shouting at a moment ago. Slim and brunette, the woman moved quickly, evading the M'Fashniks' movements.
"I got them here... I got it there... So where is the problem?"I was able to catch a glimpse of the woman dispatching one of ( ... )

Damn, damn, damn sloppy, I cursed to myself.
"GET OFF HIM!"
The voice came through, but almost as if underwater. Then, there was the strange sensation of energy in the air, not crackling like electricity, but palpable enough, as I was near the energy's target.
My head, light and heavy at the same time with the progressing lack of oxygen, lolled to one side. I saw Faith, rushing towards me, a hundred yards away. That couldn't have been right. But that was the way it seemed, at least.
"No! Wes, no! Asshole, you can't leave me again!"
It's not my bloody idea, I thought to myself, as the darkness started creeping in around the edges of my vision ( ... )

"English," I said in reply, folding my arms over my chest and pulling my jacket closed a little bit tighter. I still had my knife in hand, but I'd mostly forgotten about it. God, when did it get so cold out? I took a quick look around, looking over the work we'd done. Every demon was dead. Rather messily, I might add. Why don't demons die neatly? I know vampires do. Poof, they're dust. That's all, folks. No cleanup to take care of afterwards. Apparently demons just kind of... decomposed ( ... )

I blinked a few times before it sorta settled in. He was ok. Wes was gonna be ok. Fuck, why had it bothered me so much? And why the fuck was he acting all casual about it? I ran a hand through my tangled hair and pulled out a cig, lighting up.
"Yeah, boss, we're all doing just great. Now, let's get the hell outta here before the cops show up, cuz I'm not too keen on meeting up with them."
I eyed the girl behind me.
"Drinks. Now. Wes' treat, and you're coming."
