"I'm not like you."Damon had spat the words at Matt, rejecting his words, his offer, and they echoed in his head now and again. But when he walked away, there had been only one place he felt he could go: home. Part of him was certain he should have gone elsewhere, somewhere he could disappear ( Read more... )

Deep in the sea of bodies on the dance floor, Rebekah was losing herself in the low pulsing beat of the music. More often than not, she missed the music of the old days, especially the twenties, when she could dance with a handsome man as some woman crooned softly on the stage nearby but she couldn't deny that there was something about the beat of the music that she listened to now that spoke to her. The bass pulled at something deep inside of her as she moved, dancing sinuously as the lights flashed overhead, glancing off of her blood red dress that embraced her slender form. Next to some of the other girls in the club, Rebekah was dressed conservatively but she still caught the attention of everyone around her ( ... )

If he'd been paying a bit more attention, Damon would have noticed the other vampire in the club more quickly. But no Power radiated off of her to grab him. It was only when he felt her gaze on him that his attention was caught. He frowned a little, the part where he couldn't really feel her out tipping him off to the fact she probably had some time on him.

Still, there was no mistaking what she was, in that unidentifiable sixth sense way that screamed vampire back at him.

He lifted his drink in a slight acknowledgment, lips curving in a half-smile.

Studying him, Rebekah could feel the Power that was coming off of him. He was older than most vampires that she came upon these days and that in itself was intriguing but not as much as the fact that she could practically taste the blood on his hands. If she guessed it right, he was no stranger to killing and he definitely had no problem with it either.

Watching as he finally looked at her, she nodded her head slightly in return, knowing that he made her for a vampire but he would never guessed who she was or how old. She had started shielding herself a long time ago. It was easier when among among their kind. They tended to relax when they didn't know there was an Original nearby and it helped her to find out things they would normally want to keep from her.

Knowing that he was still watching, she winked before twisting to turn away, seeming to lose herself in the music again.

It wasn't that he was territorial--Florence was a big city, and it easily supported the few vampires who were in town on any given occasion. However, he didn't know her, and that made him vaguely concerned after all he'd been through the past year.

Still, more than concerned, he was curious. He watched her dance, appreciatively, for a few minutes. The girls snuggled around him seemed to notice his inattention, but that just made them work harder to catch it.

When they're blathering got annoying enough, he got up, abruptly, and moved toward the dancefloor.
