Quake: The road suddenly splits wide open as a massive earthquake strikes.  Strangely,

[Slugger is skating up the street on his newly returned rollerblades -- as much as he may suffer while wearing them, he can't bear to part with them for very long -- when a strong rumble sweeps through the ground. He turns to see what it is and spots a huge rift coming his way, separating the street down its center.

Startled, he swiftly veers left to avoid tumbling into the forming crevice.]

[Slugger barely avoids falling through into the cracks into the depths of the earth. Who knows where he'd end up? Behind him, though, a boy comes running up, panting and exhausted but looking oddly elated.]

[Once at a presumably safe distance, he skids to a swift halt and looks back toward the ruined street. He doesn't want to be caught in whatever it might be, but he's also curious to find out what's happening.

This is when Slugger notices the approaching boy. His attention, however, is still focused on the big crack in the street. He nods in its direction.]

Look.

I know! Isn't it awesome? Don't worry; you weren't ever gonna fall in cause I could've just closed it again.

[strike_you_out]

[It takes a few seconds for this to process.]

...You could've closed it?

Of course. A good Black Mage always has to be able to clean up his own messes -- If I can shift the earth apart, I've gotta be able to put it back together again, right?

[strike_you_out]

[Compelled by curiosity, he's going to start heading toward the giant crack in the street. Not without caution, of course.]

Serious? How? What are you?

[The term "Black Mage" was lost on him.]

I'm a Black Mage, I already said so.

Some... kind of wizard?

[Approaching the edge of the ravine and peering in.]

No way! Wizards are cheap mages who think making a little bit of sparkly dust is impressive.

There're two real types of magic: black and white. Black mages draw power from nature to create pure destructive forces. Like that! The spell I just cast is called Quake, and it, well. It makes an earthquake.
