Transformers - Half a stinkfest, Half a good movie

I have been known to be a Bay-hater, but I went into this film with an open mind. First some background: I was indeed a fan of the cartoon and animated movie when I was a kid, and yes I had a lot of the original Generation 1 Transformers figures. With that being said I was excited for the movie, but then my hopes were immediately crushed when I ( Read more... )

Explosions? Sexism? Meaningless subplots?

...What do you mean this is a Michael Bay movie?

Oh wait...nevermind...those are the hallmarks of a Michael Bay movie, and that up close shaky 'action cam' crap has been overdone since Blackhawk Down. The only movie I've seen do that shot where it wasn't irriatating and vomit inducing was Children of Men and even then they were pushing it.

Honesltly, Michael Bay is such a hack...I know, I know, I shouldn't say that since I haven't seen the movie, but going on this review and the history of Bay's direction, I think it's safe to say I would know exactly what to expect going into this one. Which is why I'll wait for the safe for cable TV version...

Ratatouille on the other hand...now that was a good summer movie. You should check it out. I know it's a kid's flick, but I judge Pixar on a different scale than everyone else because their animation is just so fun to watch.

I've seen Ratatouille. It was easily the best movie of the year. I don't mind going to see kid's movies if they are good, and Rat was excellent. It really had as much in it to appeal to adults as it did children, and I absolutly loved what they did with the food critic.

Yeah...I was really impressed by the art style Pixar used in the film. They've really grown in their animation abilities since the original Toy Story. I know some of that is due to the technology, but much of it has to do with the talent of the studio as well. It's good to see them continually pushing their hardware and abilities to the limit with their films. It seems like each new movie is starting to develop its own sort of stylistic appeal so that they're all different artistically from one another. I think this is one of the big things that keeps pixar movies so interesting.
