Yay Supreme Court!

And yay for the White House agreeing to bring their policy in line... now they just need to actually hold some trials.
Can you say pleased?

(A side note - CNN's take on the matter this morning: "Detainees to receive Geneva Convention privileges". Eh?)

Here's the BBC article: )

"The Bush administration has come under intense and sustained international criticism for its treatment of prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba."

Make that international AND domestic. He just never cared what we thought.

True, they should have included that really - well at least he is listening to the Supreme Court now. It's a shame it's taken 5 years for this decision to be reached but I guess legal things can be slow sometimes.

Cynical me, I'm thinking that it took 5 years because he just placed two conservative judges on the court. Maybe he assumed that things would go his way once his judges were on the court. Glad to see that didn't happen (at least on this issue).

Ah again the Supreme court is wrong.
Terroists have never been accorded Geneva Convention rights.

My question is why do people expect US to act in ways that no other country (with the posible exception of Britain and Israel) would act?

I realize this is your LJ, and politics is something we will never agree on, and I think you know me well enough to know I am not condeming your opinion.
In fact I can understand the ruling, I just don't think it was the right one
(which is my opinion :D)

I just believe that we are not just in a culture clash, but literally a war between civilizations. I may be wrong, but that is what I believe, so of course it tends to taint my opinions.

I hope you don't consider me out of line. (Wrong is OK.....as always I just had to comment)

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! Lol - yes I know we have pretty much agreed to differ on this one.

I think most other countries (signatories anyway) are supposed to accord terrorists Geneva convention rights - I know Germany do when they find them. and I believe France does although I know with France there is sometimes - not always - a gap between what the gov't say and what they do.
