Simon was flipping through papers, reading over the charts documenting River's treatment, trying to find a pattern of some kind, trying to find out what to do. He heaved a heavy sigh as he heard a knock at the door. Setting the papers down on his desk, he stood and went to open the door.

Liz hardly paid any attention to what happened around her, but just stared blankly at Michiru's neck.

She turned her head slowly, though, when Simon opened the door to his office. "Doctor..." Tears stood in her eyes while she smiled strangely at him. "Y-you... you don't.. have to search for a cure anymore... for mama... because... it's too late."

The girl looked back at Michiru's neck. "...She's gone... to the land where there's no pain... and... and... only happiness..."

Simon frowned and stepped toward Liz, who was obviously distraught. "What do you mean? Are you okay? Do you need a soother?"

The girl nodded. "I'm... fine... Mama isn't. Or wasn't. She's gone now. I saw her. She said she was sorry she couldn't... couldn't..." Liz started to cry softly.

"She said she was sorry she couldn't be here at m-my birthday or.. or when I would get b-back f-from school and... But that I shouldn't worry... because she'll be fine... and... and she'll wait... for me and Terence and... I'm so confused, Doctor. Everything's so confusing. I feel so many things, see too many things. I wish Terence was here. He always protects me, he can make the confusion go away."

She pressed herself firmly against Michiru. "But I don't want to go back home," Liz whispered frightened. "I don't want to go back to him... to father..."
