>> Sector 1: Hope
Second Part
One teleporter later, I'm into the brunt of Sector 1!
More combat awaits! Another Scout, no big deal.
...And advancing forward takes me back to this area.
ONWARDS
But this time I can upgrade my Strength!
BAM
Unfortunately, upon picking them up (aside from the health items there), I find that I don't actually know what any of these are. No effect...?
And it's a new foe!
Tasen Soldier
Armor: 100
HP: 2
Weight: 4
Security: 4
Height: 2.0m
In short, they're a lot like Scouts, but they have twice the health.
What's this? It's an enemy logbook!
For my money, these are part of the big appeal of the game. They give you insight into the day-to-day life of the enemy forces.
According to officials, the sentient race we found on this planet is called the "humans". I don't know how they found that out, and I don't wanna know... stick me with the people who take orders and ask questions later.
Onwards and upwards, to Unsorted Materials!
Note that it is possible to sneak up on enemies - he won't attack until he turns around and sees me, or takes damage.
Several things of note in this room!
There's some Nano, some Health, some unknown weapon ammo, a Logbook, and something else...
Hmm, did I lock the door to the storage area? I keep forgetting that. In fact, did I even open the door in the first place? Now that I mention it, I don't think I've ever been to the storage area before.
Man, I'm so envious of the Soldiers... at least their brains reacted well to the combat drugs! Stupid army's just using us Scouts, you know. They're pushing us around.
IJI
Hhh! It's, It's one of Mia's ribbons! What's it doing here?
DAN
Iji, what's wrong?
IJI
Uh, nothing. She can't be alive, anyway. Never mind.
Glass barriers can be destroyed with either weapon fire or a well-placed kick.
Yikes! This is the main reason Soldiers are more dangerous than Scouts. Getting hit by a rocket jumps right past Armor damage - you lose 2 health on the spot.
Approaching up that cliffside looked like a losing proposition, so I looped around from the other side to fight with proper cover.
He wasn't really necessary to kill; however, it's good to use enemies for bonus Nano.
The real path was all the way to the right, then down an elevator shaft to here.
There is, however, a level cap! It starts at 5, and goes up by 5 each Sector.
Further Nano hogging is unnecessary, so let's fight our way to the exist.
IJI
Dan?
DAN
What's wrong?
IJI
Uh, the Tasen, they kinda look like -
DAN
I can assure you, they're not people. They're not from this world. I know it may be difficult fighting them now, but you need to get over that as soon as possible. We can't stop and weep for everyone you shoot.
IJI
...
Fortunately, I saved up some upgrade points!
Machinegun
Damage: 10 armor
Reload time: 0.1 seconds
Muzzle Velocity: 720m/s
Requirements: Tasen 3
Uses: 1.11 machinegun clips / second
Nothing to report, as usual. There's no real danger left here. Most troops agree with Elite Krotera, though, so no alien is to escape alive.
Situations like this make a certain gameplay nuance important: You cannot shoot or kick while jumping.
Fortunately, the shotgun's blast radius is wide enough to hit the glass.
And we're in the clear!
Post-sector statistics! "Damage" refers only to HP damage. Armor scratches don't count.
Next time: Sector 2!
