Marisa picked up a similarly small amount of points last chapter! For now I'll boost her MP supply a bit and save the rest.

We also have this: The equipment screen!

I barely have any for now, but I'll equip Marisa with a Ginjo Sake, which can be used once to recover 2000 HP.

ONWARDS

An unknown is writing a letter to her mother!

Very loose summary:

-Everything's fine, still busy working on dolls.
-That jerk keeps stealing my books and causing problems.
-She keeps kicking my ass in danmaku duels.
-So thanks for the new magic tome.

I look forward to your next letter.

With love, Alice

Familiar place. New characters!

Sunny Milk
Species: Fairy
Ability: Refraction of sunlight
Disposition: Childish

Luna Child
Species: Fairy
Ability: Cancelling of sound
Disposition: Dim

Star Sapphire
Species: Fairy
Ability: Detecting moving objects
Disposition: Groovy

After some previous failed prank, the Fairies Three are off to engage in some treasure hunting!

Unfortunately, they can't find anything good in this red mist.

The mist is especially troubling for Sunny, who is powered by sunlight - if the mist keeps up, she'll keep getting weaker and weaker.

Ultimately, the conversation drifts back to Sunny's desire to cause her own incident! Which is relevant to the treasure hunting: Sunny found a place whre they can snag some magic items.

Dolls.

Sunny drags the others along to the spooky house of horror...

Hey this place doesn't look so bad.

But wait! Star's detecting someone moving inside!

Someone inside is complaining about how the red mist is making it hard to sun-dry her laundry.

She seems to be talking to either herself, or a doll that just says "Shanghai." Either way, she seems a little off-kilter.

They're caught! Right when Sunny is talking about how this weirdo probably doesn't have any friends!

Since they can't exactly say they were just here to gank her dolls, Star produces the story that they're actually youkai, not fairies.

This leads into an increasingly zany lie spiral that ends with Alice thinking that the Fairies are looking for Marisa.

Speak of the devil! Here she comes now.

Alice Margatroid
Species: Magician
Ability: Magic, puppeteering
Disposition: Lineface

Alice is in no mood for niceties! She is totally sure Marisa is up to no good, what with her book-stealing shit and these three suspicious fairy-like youkai looking for her for some reason.

Attempts to get Nitori to back her up are only met with stolid skepticism, since Alice has no idea who this weirdo is!

As the three gear up for battle, the fairies take their chance to go searching for treasure...

Marisa Path Chapter 2: Magicians and Lies

Alice wastes no time, going into her spell card Magic Sign - Artful Sacrifice right off the bat!

And in this path, Marisa is the one who gives the Spell Card tutorial.

Let's scan!

More durable than Momiji, not terribly hard to hit. Her spell card field has no special properties, although the movement penalties inside it are immense.

Alice summons a wave of dolls!

Fortunately, her dolls are weak as hell. Weaker than fairies.

Even when they do hit, the damage is piddling. I end up killing all four with counterattacks on the first turn.

Meanwhile, the fairies loot Alice's house!

Dolls of both Marisa and Reimu are found and then discarded.

Bring it, Alice!

Alice throws dolls like grenades. Marisa dodges!

We could take her out pretty quickly, but no. I have a more important plan.

We're going to get into close range and have a chat!

Marisa knows Alice well enough to know all her weak points - from here, she can totally shut her down.

Now that they're in a position to talk again, Marisa goes about convincing Alice that she has no idea who the hell those damn "youkai" are!

As Alice is convinced to call the whole thing off, the Fairies are just to the point of looking through Alice's pajamas.

As the Three Fairies start to head out, Sunny is shocked to discover that the battle outside already ended!

Alice is displeased.

So are her dolls.

Just when all seems hosed for the intrepid trio, other fairies from the area start to gather!

Using her refraction power, Sunny makes the three of them invisible!

And the fight is on!

My objective is to eliminate any one of the three fairies.

My bonus objective is to eliminate all of the other fairies first! More on that later.

Speaking of things I said I'd talk about later, Power!

Every unit starts a battle at 100 Power (although some abilities can increase that starting value). It gradually increases over the course of the battle, from actions like fighting and defeating enemies. More powerful attacks tend to have Power requirements - the one I have selected now requires 105 Power to use. Simple enough.

Oh yeah, and this is Alice's attacks, 'cause she's on my team now.

Anyway, time to start beating up fairies!

Alice suggests using a bomb!

After all, the invisibility effect on the Fairies is tied to the danmaku field...

FLY, FUNNELS

Alice is actually totally awesome, and I will be maining her for the whole game. Whenever she's around, at least.

The last of the auxiliary fairies down, it is time to deal with the named ones.

This should do nicely.

Being fairies, even just the bomb takes out most of their health.

And they are fully visible now!

Sunny is flipping out.

AS WELL SHE SHOULD BE.

One solid round of dollslicing sends Sunny packing!

Having been soundly beaten, the fairies fess up to their deceptions.

At this level of patheticness, Alice doesn't really feel like fighting anymore. Battle over.

But Marisa still has something to talk about with them...

STAGE 2 CLEAR

HEY YOU

Despite all evidence pointing obviously to the fairies, Alice decides to go ahead and mark Marisa as the source of the problem on principle.

Anyway, Marisa harasses the fairies about whether or not they know anything regarding the red mist!

Sunny's got nothing beyond "It sure is red, huh".

The DO know where Reimu is, but Marisa's not interested in that! She wants to know where the NON-Reimu shrine maiden is.

Strange topic, since everyone knows there's only one shrine maiden in Gensokyo...

They have seen a strange new human around, though!

Not a shrine maiden - a maid.

Reactions!
Marisa thinks it's suspicious enough to check out.
Nitori's never seen a real maid before.
Alice wonders briefly if it's the maid that looked after her in Makai, but quickly pushes the thought out of her mind. No way is that possible.

After they leave, Marisa reflects thoughtfully on the motivations of the fairies. Alice comments that she has good insight into the minds of children. Nitori suggests that it's because she's a child herself.

All right, everyone to the human village!

Nitori, still jittery around humans, isn't thrilled by the idea...

When she tries to see them off, Marisa insists that Alice come along! She doesn't want to, but after enough pestering, she admits that okay, getting in a proper danmaku duel was pretty fun, and she could use a break from the boredom.

The target is the shopping district! After all, why else would a maid be coming into town?

Alice complains to Shanghai that she really doesn't have any interest in the red mist, but hey, YOU try disagreeing with Marisa...
