>> Route 1, Chapter 7: Takeshi Doesn't Know
We're into the generator room!
It's fuckin' hot.
The actual repair process goes fairly fast! Tsugumi ignores my complaints and makes me do all the boring stuff.
Time to turn it back on!
I insist on a countdown for no particular reason.
20!
19!
18!
17!
Tsugumi ruins my fun by hitting the button early.
Of course, exactly 17 seconds later, the lights turn on.
POWER RESTORED
Of course, a new problem comes up now.
The remaining non-damaged elevator isn't moving up.
It's the voice of our erstwhile guardian angel!
Sora explains that the elevator isn't buoyant enough in these atmospheric conditions to lift us.
Tsugumi, despite all protests, picks the most obvious solution: Staying behind herself to let me return safely.
HERO MODE ENGAGE
NO KUUDERE LEFT BEHIND
Oh right, we have power now.
You may have noticed by now that Takeshi is not especially bright.
Crisis averted, it's back to killing time while we wait for the rescue team!
Coco found a set of playing cards. She's trying to get us to play some game called Super Memory.
I'm pretty sure you made this game up, Coco!
>I've never heard of it.
The game she describes is exactly Concentration. Nobody can agree on what the right name is. Antics ensue.
Kid is here with refreshments! Truly he is the kind of man a man needs when a man needs a man.
Resources are six colas and two chicken sandwiches.
Sora declines her sandwich!
Seriously, woman, you're going to starve to death.
YOU'D BETTER EAT YOUR SHARE OR
What
WHAT
SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THIS SHIT BEFORE I EXPLODE
THIS IS NOT EXPLANATIONS
What are you talking about, devil woman?!
>So what about it?
It would seem that I'm the only one who doesn't know about this!
Whatever this is.
Sora reintroduces herself as LM-RSDS-4913A, an AI appearing as a functionally holographic - but very convincing - RSD image.
Transmitters all over the park shine beams directly onto our retinas to simulate the image. She isn't actually there at all.
This explains how she moves around so fast, and why she disappeared during the blackout!
Tsugumi actually shows some interest in this conversation!
Sora is apparently just about the most advanced AI on the planet.
Tsugumi decides to give Sora's reasoning abilities a test drive!
Tsugumi is a man: False.
Tsugumi is over 20 years old: Possible.
Tsugumi is single and always will be: Possible.
Takeshi had a sex change three years ago: False.
Not bad!
In short: Sora's programming is Sufficiently Advanced Technology that makes her all but human.
Several hours pass!
It is now nighttime on the second day.
Let's get some more info out of Sora!
This is interesting. Time to learn about RSD!
Sora is here only as an image projected onto my eyes! She's explaining while she has an arm sticking through my chest.
RSD stands for Retinal Scanning Display, and is arguably superior to traditional holograms because it makes a completely solid-looking image.
But what about her voice? It sounds like it's coming from her.
How simple. I'm still wearing the voice converters!
If I take the voice converters out, not only can I not hear her, but the image is messed up, because the voice converters are used to determine head position by the RSD system. This is in turn used to determine where to project voice from via left/right balance in the VCs, and where to project images from onto my eyes.
By way of demonstration, when Coco comes in looking for Sora, she can't see her anywhere, even though she's right there!
She pulls this trick by projecting her image onto my eyes, but not Coco's. She can also perform such shenanigans as appearing and sounding as if she was in different places for different people.
From my perspective, Coco is now conversing with a flowerbed, because that's where she sees Sora.
Shit is kind of creepy!
The one abilty Sora lacks, at the specification of her designer, is the ability to be in multiple places at once. Because there is only one Sora.
Walking with Sora back to the control room!
She explains that there are mirrors embedded into walls all over so that no matter where you are, the RSD can reflect a beam at you to make Sora visible.
The only drawback of the system...
It's a philosophical point, but Sora only properly "exists" when someone is observing her.
To be continued!
