I understand both sides to this brouhaha about Obama getting the prize. I agree that it's kind of silly to nominate him for his peace keeping efforts when we haven't seen any long term effects of his actions. On the other hand, when he was elected, he had been promising more diplomacy and the rest of the world breathed a sigh of relief that someone with a half a brain was finally in control of our nation
( ... )
Also, regarding Obama going on Letterman, I can understand this. He wasn't going on to chat about his family like his new album was dropping next week. While he did get the usual "How you doin'?" questions out of the way, he was there to promote his health care plan. Tons of Americans ignore the news and will change the channel if a President's speech comes on instead of the new episode of American Idol. So why not go on a program that many people watch anyway to inform them about health care? Letterman did a classy interview and devoted the whole show to the president. It wasn't like, "Coming up after President Obama, we've got Jessica Biel and the Jonas Brothers!"
Okay, this is the most cogent argument i've heard/read yet as to why the prez would be on a talk show. You do make a very good point; no one is interested in politics, and are actively repulsed by it. So at least he is reaching out in a more applicable medium.
.........actually, you may have a point there; aren't social networking sites doing more to voice the struggles of Iranians than any other outlet? hmm.... I smell a nomination for next year!

However, turns out the American Prez is automatically nominated every year.... for some reason.
