Let's Play Vantage Master

Welcome back!

This is our next target! We will do battle with the paladin Rami-Ruth. The stakes? A new Natial named Dullmdaler. Let's go!

Here's our map. We technically both start with zero Stones, but I start with ready access to six of them, and he has jack shit. This should be nice and easy!

I'm opening with Fa-Rancell, for reasons that will become clear later!

Because I started with an earth Natial, Rami-Ruth predictably goes for Air, which is a bit of a downside to my plan, as Guene-Foss is a great starting unit for him anyway.

The point of the strategy is this - at 16 MP, Fa-Rancell is one of the cheapest units I own. Its only purpose in my plan is to gather Magic Stones for me while I do what actually matters. This is a good tactic!

Well, this is embarassing. I meant to summon Hepitus to counter his Guene-Foss, but instead I somehow ended up summoning a Guene-Foss of my own. Oh well, I can use it to fly around and harass his guys.

Also, why the heck did he summon a Reque? I don't have any fire Natials at this point.

Okay, got myself a Hepitus to counter his Guene-Foss. However, it's already slipped past my front line and started attacking Batman. One of the computer's strategic flaws is its inability to look far ahead - damaging Batman is a decent option now, but only if he had the firepower to keep pressure up until I die. Which he doesn't.

Physical attack isn't a great option, but Guene-Foss is expensive (32 MP!), so I can't really afford much.

That's the kind of damage I like to see my units doing.

As a side note, damage is 0% randomized in this game! It depends on a number of factors - facing, attack power, defense power, terrain, elements, time of day... but none of them are random.

Rami-Ruth doesn't seem to like having no Guene-Foss, so he's pulling back to summon a new one. Pulling back was a mistake, my friend.

All stones are now mine! My MP recovery rate is about double his now. It'd be even more, but Palladins have much better magic power than Thieves.

I can't really explain why, but I've always been fond of Fa-Rancells.

My Guene-Foss won't be alive much longer, at this rate, but it still has a good use - messing with the enemy. The more time he spends screwing around dealing with it, the more time I have to close the gap he opened by drawing back.

Of course, what the Palladin lacks in speed, he makes up for in physical strength. Down it goes.

Pinned between two earth Natials, this Reque doesn't have much longer to live. The battle line looks pretty intense here, but...

With this hit, Rami-Ruth has no more Natials on the field.

Just for kicks, let's try out that new Natial I got!

This is Marme. Not a great fighter, but defense is much better than Reque. Also...

...it can heal units! Marme is a Night type unit, and it's currently daytime, so this only recovers 2 HP, but even that can be VERY significant at the right times. As a side note, Natials don't have their own MP pools, so magic used by Natials drains the Master's MP. Gotta use it wisely.

Also, while he's totally screwed, Rami-Ruth's gonna be a pain to get at in that tiny little bottleneck.

So why not just go around it? Man, I love flying units.

LOOK OUT! HE KNOWS ABOUT TIMED HITS RANGED ATTACKS!

BATMAN HASII WONED

All of the first four maps are this easy, really. This is still playtime.

Magic power increased for my level up! Also, I have Dullmdaler, my second fire Natial. Expect me to use Hepitus very little now!

Look, a cutscene! Surely this will explain great quantities of important plot infor--
