My father has a Colt SAA in .45 it was made in 1904. The best part about the gun is that it is factory engraved by Cuno Helfricht who was the head of their engraving shop. Less then 1% of all first generation SAA were engraved. The photos do not due it enough justice, the gun is like a fine piece of art.

My grandfather won the gun in a card game down in Texas in around 1912, it has been in the family ever since. Due to the value, it is kept in a bank safety deposit box.

You will appreciate this, a few years ago someone on ar-15.com wanted to see who had the best "Safe Queen". After I posted the photos, he simply said "You win".

Ah I had seen those before, I remembered when I saw the notches on the grip.

You are correct, the SAA is the only gun one should open carry. I guess a Schofield or cap and ball revolver would do too. Remington New Army. SAA is the pinnacle.

I don't have any great family guns like that, so I'm gonna start my own and get something nice from US Firearms Company probably.
