Dentists!

This worked pretty well for eye doctors, so I'm trying again for a dentist: anyone know of a good one near campus? I don't want to travel too far, but I also don't want to go somewhere horrible. I really should go before I leave for california...

I like the dentist which is a block from where I live. It's arguably not as close as the one in Oakland, but I believe it's better. If you want to look up any info, I go to Marcus & Hayes on Alger St. in Greenfield. I'm not sure how much room they have open for appointments in the near future either, but you could try.

Mine is Dr. Melnick, on Craig Street just north of Fifth. I think the address might be 208... it's in the big apartment building on the east side of the street, whose name of course I forget now. I would describe him as the kind of dentist I would be if 14-year-old me had wanted to become a dentist: certainly very thorough on the paperwork and things to check, but that comes with the side effect that he'll probably suggest a bunch of work you don't really have to do.

You may want to start with getting a list of area dentists that your insurance takes, and then narrow down from there, since that may be a fairly big constraint on its own.

Oh, one important thing I forgot -- when I went for the first time, the "new patient" appointment they made for me was just a general status check and not actually a cleaning; I had to schedule that separately afterwards. If you're short on time, you may want to mention that you need an actual cleaning by a certain date when you first call them.
