Name: Professor Gilbert Treacle [

Phosphoreumbra ( Original Verse created by
drazzi)
Appearance: For his race, Gilbert is for the most part, a typical Scintillain except from his slightly pale skin. He has very brightly coloured lime green hair which is long enough to touch his lower back. He wears this braided to keep the heat away from his neck. His eyes are vivid blue with a ring of purple on the outside of the iris and his pupils are incredibly small, as is with all northerners of Phosphoreumbra.
Despite being a middle aged Scintillain the professor has quite youthful features. It’s rumoured that the man uses tricks of light to appear the younger, and the same as he always has, all though these days his hair is greying behind his ears just a bit.
He stands at six foot tall exactly, and wears traditional Scintillain clothing consisting of brightly coloured loose fitting and thin clothes. Purple is his favourite colour and he also likes to wear various gold bangles and suns.
The most distinctive and recognisable feature about Gilbert Treacle are his glasses, which he always wears. All though he has no eyesight problems, he wears quad-lens glasses which can act as a magnifier, a shade, and a focuser for light.
Over his eyes he wears a thin layer of purple hued sun-cream. He insists that his eyelids will become sun burnt if he doesn’t do this.

Personality: He’s a complete fruitcake. Random and an oddball, most people are likely to wonder why he’s not locked up in an insane asylum. The thing is, he’s a kind and active member of his community, helpful and charitable to everyone he meets and the best Professor of light magic in Lamsense State. Occasionally a little seriousness will break through the sandstorm of his insanity, though usually laughter and quirky behaviour are his forte.
It is very difficult to get the professor into a down hearted mood; he would rather stay the eternal optimist.
Loosing his marbles and being a mad cap man results in him being very well likes by children, particularly those he teaches in school. Blowing things up is a wonderful was to make people laugh, so he believes.
The Prof is very intelligent all though it’s difficult to see that, often his randomness has some kind of point to it, all though sometimes he’ll forget what it was. He is a curious inventor and a creator of odd and pointless things as well as revolutionary inventions such as light travel. Generally, he is very inquisitive, and fascinated by new things or things he can potentially research.
The professor does not like to see suffering and unhappiness about him, and he will often put himself forward in any efforts to subdue a threat or situation which could be potentially dangerous.
As far as other people are concerned, he loves all sorts of people very dearly and has a lot of time and affection to offer. Yet when it comes to relationships of a romantic sort Gilbert is completely out of his comfort zone.
He does understand what goes on between two people in a relationship; however he often pretends he does not. The mere mention of any kind of sexual practice will often turn the man into a babbling mess and he’ll avoid any kind of physical confrontation at high cost. Prof Treacle does not respond well to confessions of love or even the possibility that anyone would be so silly as to care for him that way. After all, he is an old man; he has very little left to give on that score in his opinion.
History: Gilbert was born into a happy home, with loving parents and a peaceful way of life. His father was a medic, and ran a clinic for sick children, whereas his mother was a housewife. Being that there were always many sick children around him as well as his mother and father working from home, he always had others to play with and was never lonely. He developed a way of being able to make friends with almost anyone; big or small, brave or a coward, and due to the atmosphere of his household, developed very few prejudice ideas about anything.
His mother died when he was seven years old, though she taught him many things before then, including the beginnings of light manipulation magic, which for him, would grow into extremely powerful and renowned powers throughout the northern hemisphere.
Seven years later, his father died also, leaving the house/clinic in the hands of his young fourteen year old son. The gentle boy waited for three years before he re-opened the place, in that time he studied harder than ever the ways of light manipulation. His abilities with light magic abilities grew to be far ahead of most others in Passadia.
When he set up the family clinic again at age seventeen, he did not open it as a doctor, but as a young teacher of beginning to advanced light magic classes.
He has worked at that very school ever since, for four hundred and eighty one years. Over the years the small building grew and extended with more teachers and more students to boot.
Professor Treacle became a renowned user of light magic as well as a helpful scientist and valuable member of the community.
At the time of the rebellion, when the Monarchy was overthrown, it was rumoured that the Professor was best friends with the leader of the rebellion, and that he assisted in the planning of the assassination of the ex-King of Lamsense.
After the revolution the Professor continued to teach as he always had, along side with the young teacher’s aide Muriel Granger, who became his best friend and right hand in all things whether she wanted to or not. (He nicknames her Muri-Bell)
A few years after the Lamsense Council was formed, there was an act of mutiny among them and a plot to assassinate the council members. Gilbert Treacle was framed and arrested for this act, and was to be tried for treason, under penalty of banishment and consequently death.
His time spent in the Lamsense City Prison was a dark and soul breaking time for him, however, with the help of his good friend and star pupil Darryn Miquiztli as well as the support of Muriel Granger, the Prof was acquitted of charges, and the real culprit, Byron Marks, was banished into the upper land desert.
(There is more in his future, but I’m stealing him from this point!)
Specific Abilities: The Professor is a very skilled light manipulator. Providing there is light to use he can do a great number of things with it as a raw material.
He can use it to burn, create fire, solidify it into a weapon, blind, sparkle, draw, take photographic images, heat water and create steam and more.
He is very apt at explosions caused by light, he finds them most enjoyable. He also enjoys using his glasses as a light focuser in order to burn people’s bottoms if they don’t pay attention in his class.
The ability the Professor is renowned for that many have not yet mastered is light travel. The techniques of harnessing enough light into ones form to simply become light, and henceforth travel as it. Often, Gilbert will use this feat to travel through mirrors and reflective surfaces.
Another thing he is famous for is teaching the technique of invisibility via light. Where as Gilbert can not do this himself, he devised the theory behind it and has taught it to his star pupil, Darryn Miquiztli.
The Prof can also perform some light healing techniques, using heat and light solids to repair the human body. He learned about the body and such things from his father, so he is not the best practiced, but can perform surgery if required.
Additional Information: Gilbert treacle is one of the few Scintillain’s to not possess a tattoo. Most have any number of them to their name.
The Professor discovered a metal which was perfect for making jewellery, he named this metal Treacleite.
He likes parsnips.
Sample Journal Post: [The communicator comes on with an odd sound like tapping, and then smacking, then the sound of something wet] Ugh, tastes like… Hmn, what does it taste like? [And there’s that wet sound again] Not like any black thing I’ve ever tasted before. Perhaps it’s some sort of rare gem? Have I discovered a new stone?!!!

“Are we all set for class today? Muri-bell” The tall man asked, leaning forward on his toes slightly so as to look into the eyes of his teachers aide. His glasses were set to the darkest lens and that wouldn’t do at all! It made Muriel’s face look grey, and her face wasn’t grey!
Sticking his finger in the center cog he spun the tri-lens so that the magnifying glass was now what he was looking through. “Ah, that’s better!”
The girl looked at him with a frown. "Magnifying glass? You'll hurt your eyesight one day Treacle, light magic or not..."
Picking up her papers she turned around fully to facing the teacher now and purse her lips momentarily. “I've set up the light instruments on the table and the paperwork, which I'm guessing you probably won't bother using, is in this pile here."
"Hmm? Oh yes!" The Professor smiled idly, he had been watching her speak with a warm smile. "Thank you Muri-Bell, you're a good girl."He patted her hair gently. Showing his gratitude with physical affection was something he often did with her among others.
"How to burn with light! Sounds fun doesn't it? I have a demonstration planned!" He then began, seemingly happy to chatter for a while before the students arrived.
Bustling around on the desk, the teacher moved all of the paperwork on to his chair, clearing a space and smiling.
"There," He began, as he pulled a large almost plate sized glass lens from his bag and positioned it on the desk using an already in place fixture. "This should do for the demonstration. Do you like it?”
“She shook her head before looking at the plate. "Magnifying are we?" She knew what he was planning and she hoped that it didn't hit the walls..
“How does this sound, ahem. ‘Now, today we are going to learn how to create fire using light manipulation, and to begin, we will be using glass" he pointed to the large lens on the desk "as an aid to help us."
He paced around the desk once or twice, waiting for Murial give him at least one smile before he continued. "Now, as you all know, light can travel through transparent solids, so, if we focus the light we manipulate correctly through this glass, we can create a concentrated beam in a single spot. Isn't that exciting?!"
“What are you focusing this beam on, Professor?” Muriel interrupted him then before he could continue.
“Well, my desk of course! Nothing catches fire like a good old wooden desk!”
