National Obscurity

But what I need is not cut cost
What I need is a life where I've won
All the times that I've lost
What I need is not ways to go on
What I need is to slit my wrists and be gone

Hm. I can't think of anything I listen to that would be considered obscure, unless you count some of the electronic stuff, but meh. I think even most of that is really well know among people who listen to electronic music? I'm bad at this game. :)

Hahaha. No worries. I only know the smallest whiff of modern electronic and EMD - most of my knowledge is Kraftwerk and the 80's BEF music. I've tried to keep up with like Moby and Fatboy Slim in the 90's and then Burial and some of the other more ambient acts of this century, but I lean more rock so I've missed out. If you have anything you'd like to share I'd love to hear it!

I appreciate your fanaticism. I will have to listen to some of the songs you posted.

Thank you! I appreciate it and I'm sure the surviving band members would appreciate it!

So far, its been more because that's my obsession than by design. I'll gladly write something else if something related to music doesn't immediately pop into my head. :D

I know that feeling-- talented people who are almost entirely overlooked, for unfathomable reasons except that they're not striking the "popular" chord somehow.

UK was one of the few late '70s bands I liked, and while "Rendezvous 6:02" got airplay, I thought the band would be bigger somehow. But the things I liked-- including electric violin, interesting lyrics, and unusual rhythms (parts of the Danger Money title track are in 7)-- are the kinds of things other people don't geek on. :)

Machines of Loving Grace was another. "Butterflies Wings" hit it big (and it's still my favorite). It's the lead track from Concentration, and is what got me to buy the album (though there are some songs I skip over). I've bought Gilt twice (one copy got scratched), and both versions have been "Promotional Release Only" CDs, making me wonder if that album was ever officially released. I think it's actually better than the one that followed. Interesting industrial rock sound, crunchy bass guitar (a big weakness for me), and boy, Gilt is never boring. ... )

This is a fantastic group of songs and you managed to name a bunch of bands that I've never ever been exposed to - this is like Christmas morning for me. I'm going to start listening to them right now and I'll get back to you again in a bit. Thank you so much!

U.K. is going to take a while to get through (hurray whole album!) but I want to say immediately that I love the organ work so far (here at 5:00 in) and am sad that I've never heard them before. This reminds me of some of my favorite prog rock bands from that decade. I can't find this album on iTunes (I was ready to buy it about 30 seconds in - the organ sold me) so I'll poke around elsewhere. Hurray!

Well, yay! I hope you enjoy what you find. I was surprised to see that all 4 albums are available in complete form on youtube, so you can sample the variety of sound from those two bands. :)

As a community theater actor, I know what it's like to create art that very few will ever see.

I will have to wait til after the polls close to give them a listen.

Hey! I do community theatre too!

I had a weird experience lately. I worked on a show that 9,000 people saw and was reflecting on how, for most of the shows I work on, having like 1,000 see the whole run is a big deal.

Ah well, the important thing is that those 5 people or 9,000 people have a great artistic experience.
