Sentimental Powers Might Help You NowWe were going to get married. We'd talked about it daily for over a year. We'd discussed names for children. And then one night out of the blue, she told me I needed to move out and she'd arranged for somewhere for me to move. I cried both about the end of our ( Read more... )

Everything is Awesome even the Tegan & Sara with Lonely Island remix isn't really a happy song. In my brain it's about being stuck in a boring life and listening to it doesn't make me angry, but makes me want to never be a doldrum lego piece. (that's me though).

I feel you though. I do have a Soundtrack to A Life, but it's a quite strange soundtrack and it's mostly built from songs in movies that had an impact on me. Usually movies that you'd be "wait, what?"

I don't really have any good songs to relate to break ups or even people I've been with. Yet... I do. Amazingly and probably shamefully, Bon Jovi did two of them.

I have a complicated relationship with Bon Jovi. I've sort of despised them for years. Then I joined a band. Bon Jovi was coming through town and the band decided to take a field trip to see them so I went along. Damn, if they didn't put on an amazing show. He's a great singer and performer. I'm still not a fan of most of their music, but I'm a fan of the band in general and Jon Bon Jovi in specific. I can only wish to be as good a singer and performer as he! So, basically, no shame in finding solace in his songs as far as I'm concerned.

I love this. I studied psych in school and stuff like this always makes me happy to discuss and learn about ( ... )

I was just having a discussion with another Idoler about how music doesn't have an emotional impact on them. I know other people who are annoyed at pretty much all music. The human mind is such a complex thing and it doesn't surprise me that there are some arts that touch some people and repulse other people (and inspire every reaction in between!).

I wish I knew more about this subject, but the topic that always fascinates me is "sweet anticipation." I am fascinated by the thought that many of us can't help but enjoy hearing or experiencing something that completely matches our expectations. Its like we say we want new stuff, but we really secretly want the same stuff over and over again. This, perhaps, explains how I can watched 'Spirited Away' every single day. Hmm.

That song occupies a weird place in my memory. Like I know it happened and I know it was a hit, but for some reason when I list Elton John songs, that one is flushed away. So is "I'm Still Standing." I don't know, the 80's were a complicated time, man.

Palatable. I get this. I woke up crying every morning for nine months. It was agonizing and frightening and insanely painful. I'm so glad to hear that you're happy and married. Now. And sad songs do help, don't they? So does dancing. So, instead of a sad song of which I love too many, here's a great dance video -

Wow, what lovely video. Thank you so much for sharing it! I've never heard of Slow Club before - is that the musical artist or the dance company?

Thank you also for reading and commenting!

Aren't those two AMAZING???? Slow Club is the musical group. And who knew that asking these two World Champion Lindy Hop dancers to interpret the original Swing dance legends Al Minns and Leon James routine would result in such an incredible video??? Ryan Francois and Remy Kouakou Kouame, take a bow or several!

Oh man! What a horrible set of events to have to go through. What happened with your 'best friend' after you found out? That's pretty much ultimate betrayal right there.

When my heart is gloomy, the tunes roll in. You know, there is such a vast selection to choose from, but not so much for when the heart is happy. It's almost like we thrive on sadness.

All my happy music right now is stuff I can strut to. Usually really trashy stuff like "If You Want My Body" by Rod Stewart or "Uptown Funk." For some reason, songs about how sexy the singer is make me walk like I am hot stuff. I must look ludicrous, but when you're happy, who cares? :D
