I'd love to read these articles, but unfortuanately, I'm not about to pay money for each one, and the links you provided only have abstracts that do not show much. Maybe you could copy and paste the articles onto a link of your own, or onto LJ itself?
Well, if you'd made this suggestion way-back-when I originally posted this thing, I might have been able to help you out. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible since (as you have already discovered) these articles have disappeared into the cavernous recesses of the NY Times Archives. In order for me to get access to them now, I'd have to pay their exorbitant access fees, same as you.

However, if you're interested in reading some more recent stuff from the NY Times, they do still have a free online subscription (offered somewhere at - poke around a bit and you should be able to find it) that should allow you to view all recent articles published therein - and, they'll E-mail the headlines to you each day. Personally, I highly recommend it.
