Mom had a major surgery last Thursday. I've been checking up on her daily just to make sure she's ok. Today was the first day in the last five that she was anything like lucid, I'm so relieved. I didn't realize how much it was weighing on me, but I feel so light right now! She's fine for now and having real conversations again ( Read more... )

It was the intense itching after I burned my back pretty badly once that finally made me wary of the sun. Pain is pretty tolerable and there are drugs that make it better, but itching that bad when scratching only adds burning was just maddening. I don't worry about the long-term effects of sun exposure because I'm just not the kind of person who could ever soak up enough sun to seriously risk cancer, but I will do everything I can to avoid serious sunburn. Of course, I'm still pretty carefree about short spans in the sun.

Exactly. The initial pain of the burn wasn't so severe, just annoying. The itching is just about driving me up the wall. I don't take the sun too seriously either, and I still rarely burn. I guess sunburns are like getting really, really stupidly drunk. Every now and again I have to do it, just to remind myself why I don't do it.

I'm so sorry to hear of your mom needing major surgery, but really happy to hear that she is recovering well.

I just got back from a week in Texas and that sun is so strong. Even with applying sunscreen 4 times per day, we still got sunburned, but not too terrible. I hate those severe sunburns that you got though. Aloe is your friend.

I appreciate your concern. However, Aloe is my hated arch-enemy. That plant burns me like elven rope! Everyone says how soothing it is, but for me it just makes things worse. I don't get it.

Oklahoma sun was like that I recall, just simply more intense.

You're the second person I know who is allergic (?) to aloe.

Aloe is not to me like diet soda is to you.

I would recommend a general skin moisturizer and apply liberally (like voting)

Who's ever heard of a red-head having easily burnt skin??? =)
