Tonight I got mugged on the blue line train near the Racine stop. My phone was taken and I earned a few bruises. Ok, a lot of bruises. Like Ron White said, I wasn't sure how many of them it was going to take to whup my ass...but I know how many they used. I'm not embarrassed by getting pounded up by 6 guys

Balls. Let's hope that's a once-in-a-lifetime sort of occurrence. I'm glad to hear that it didn't come out worse than it apparently did.

Now I'm not so sure about my plan of taking the Metra all the way back out to Aurora after a night of drinking with friends.

The last Metra leaves union station at 1240am and the first one leaves at 555am. You have to either quit early or never.

I've noticed that in a lot of cities. Why wouldn't you run trasit until, say, a half-hour after bar close? I'm sure they've done some estimates that show they'd lose a lot of money doing it, but it would also help keep drunks off the streets.

Mostly I regret not continuing martial arts training. These guys couldn't fight worth a shit, but they overwhelmed me. The little bit of training I did with you guys came back, but I wasn't able to execute for lack of practice.

Yeah, it's sad you're not here in town, because our current sensei is showing us stuff that makes anything we used to do look like silly games. I could ask him if he knows anyone in the Chicago area he'd recommend.

The thought of weapons getting pulled is the only reason they didn't end up in the ICU. I was just trying to defend and defuse, no intention of offense.

This taught me a valuable lesson about complacency. Seriously, wtf was I thinking riding through sketchy town in a car alone playing with my phone. I should have moved to the front cars but didn't even think about it until it was too late. Lesson learned. An expensive and painful lesson, but it was learned.

I did get the shiny new gphone though, and it's pretty rad. I really didn't need that extra expense right now, but it was only nominally more expensive than replacing my sidekick since I didn't get the contract discount. :(

I was never once offended by you or anyone else checking to make sure I made it home ok. That's just what you do for those you care for!

The gphone has things I like and things I don't so far. The sidekick had a superior keyboard, but the sidekick had the best keyboard short of a laptop. (My opinion)

I don't know how the app catalog was before now, but at first glance it seems pretty big...more updates to follow.

It's really not a bad place over all. I complain about it here, because my lj is largely a venting tool and a public announcement tool. I haven't told you about all the times public transit worked well for me, or all the cool places I've been in the city, or the awesome people I've met here either. I'm sure if you walked through some tough neighborhoods you'd bump into trouble too. I live on the other side of the rough spots, so anytime I go anywhere I'm traveling through them.
