Kelly's was the best I think. There was nothing I didn't love about her collection.
But I actually kind of liked Candice's. The judges were kind of right but I also kind of disagreed with them. Maybe I just liked the color palate an the leather. It looked like Candace. It was bold, sure, but I don't think it was too costumy.
Edmund's was just strange and very mumsy. I didn't like it at all.
I was really disappointed in Ashley. I didn't like her collection at all except for maybe one or two pieces. I loved that she designed for full figured women, but her collection was just very meh to me. I disagreed with the judges. I liked the seafoam short dress and the brown long dress with the sheer skirt, though. Those two pieces were nice. But the rest of it wasn't my cup of tea. And there were clear issues with some of the pieces. Gluing flowers in a final collection?
I am happy that Ashley won in the sense of someone designing for plus sizes winning. But I think Kelly's collection was pretty clearly the best.
I tend to agree with you. I think the top three pre-save were the right choices, that Edmund overdid the ruffles, that Candice had more fit issues than Ashley, and that Kelly's was better. I liked Ashley's colors but not the designs themselves; I thought the lace was too fussy and the midriff-baring too, well, bare; most of the plus-sized women I know tend not to want to show upper arms and belly.
There is a very large market for the fashions Ashley is making. Those women are indeed baring arm and midrifts. They are rcokcin fatkinis. They responded to an article one of Oprahs writer's made with a #RocktheCrop hashtag on twitter. Ashley's contemporary designers are Jibiri and MonifC.
Kellys' was my absolute favorite. It's been a few years since I've watched Project Runway, but I guess they judge by the final collection and not the designers growth. Kellys was so much fun and everything she had learned throughout the competition she put into her collection.
I really admired Ashley's collection; I loved the vibrant colors and that most of the dresses were different; it wasn't just all separates like Kelly. Ashley had fitting issues still and she was in the bottom a lot of times. Kelly won four times, three of them in a row.
I would've loved to have seen Candace's collection from what she had before the judges' critique, just a little less costumey. Without all the wooden pieces, there wasn't much of an Asian-fusion. Edmond's collection was strange; it was inspired by his mother and love but it was all in black. If I thought about love, and he wanted it to be sexy, I would think about deep shades of reds, silky fabric, purples, magentas; bold and hot.
I'm happy for Ashley that she won, but deep down I was really pulling for Kelly. I wish she had had just a couple more 'wow' pieces in her finale. She's still my favorite contestant from this season, or perhaps most of the seasons, actually. Great personality.
