Gender imbalance in China due to sex selection abortions

One reason that I have never accepted the view that abortion is part of "women's rights" is that in many parts of the world abortion is being used against women in extreme ways like this

Doctor: Good afternoon Ms. Zhang. I understand you want to terminate your pregnancy. Can you tell me why?
Ms. Zhang: Yes, it's because the ultrasound technician told me it's a girl. My husband and I want a boy.
Doctor: I'm sorry, that's illegal.
Ms. Zhang: Oops, I mean, um, we're not ready for a child right now.
Doctor: Oh, in that case, no problem! We'll set you right up!

As long as they're letting women have abortion on demand without giving a reason, Chinese women would be absolutely stupid to say "I'm aborting because it's female." And they are not. They know about the laws.

Now how they are trying to combat this is by making the gender testing illegal. But people are getting around this by bribing ultrasound technicians. From what I hear, the tech smiles if it's a boy, and frowns if it's a girl. Speaks volumes, doesn't it

it kills me that this means over and above all the abortions for the one child rule or whatever reason, probably around 32 MILLION little girls have been killed simply because they are little girls.... damn.

Yes, you're right that it is hard to enforce a ban on sex selection abortions. I would not be surprised if sex selection abortions happen to some degree in America and Canada too, just not in such a blatantly obvious way.
Maybe the social problems this will lead to will be a wakeup call for some people.
