New law in Nebraska (aka some hopeful news)

Jun 01, 2009 09:25

Nebraska lawmakers passed a controversial measure that requires clinics performing abortions to display ultrasound images so a woman can see it..

This is a good step in the right direction, IMHO. I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll make in the long run, but I have my fingers crossed.

That's great news! I hope more states pass this.

I'm glad this was passed. I think if a woman is dead set in getting an abortion then she likely feels that what is growing inside her is not a human being, thus I can imagine that seeing an ultrasound of what she believes to be just clusters of cells isn't going to change her mind. The only minds this will change are those who are not ready to get an abortion or those who would likely be the ones to regret their procedure later on in life, as I hear that happens quite a lot.

Trufax. Even the article states this:

"There are so many women who said, 'I was told it was a blob of tissue and if I would have known it was a baby, I wouldn't have aborted my baby,'" Kramer said.

Every little bit helps, as far as I'm concerned.

This is wonderful news! No matter what the pro-death advocates say, there ARE women who see ultrasounds and realize that they have babies inside them. There ARE women who choose not to have abortions after this realization.

It's a wonderful opportunity to help women understand just what abortion really kills, and even the pro-death crowd can't complain, because it's not like this legislation is forcing them to keep their baby.

I'm so pleased to hear how many steps in the right direction our society is making.

I think this is great, too. What could be wrong with (true) informed consent?

"This is your blob of cells. That flicker is the heartbeat, that is the blob's head, it's legs... Yup, just a blob of cells. So, how will you be paying today?"

The only thing I wonder is, how will they enforce this?
