once they had tests for down's syndrome and gender we already had this.

in India they have billboards talking about how much cheaper an abortion is than a dowry....

if you are even remotely at risk (older, etc) you WILL be tested for Down's Syndrome. if you tell the doctor you wont even consider an abortion they start to pressure you and talk about just how much of a BURDEN a downs syndrome kid will be.

this isnt new, its just MORE.
we already have insurance companies denying insurance to women because they carry the breast cancer genes...

Luckily I didn't have that pressure or I would have got really annoyed - I would have had the non-invasive tests at the time, but for my knowledge, but not the amnio as it carried a risk to baby. As it turns out, was too late for the fold test; I was asked about the amnio by a midwife later on, and when I said I didn't want to run the risk as it wouldn't make any difference, she just said "good!" and carried on.

Possibly different places, different styles...

a friend went in for a routine test, was told she needed some kind of test or asnother (she tends to be rather laid back and just accepted that she needed the tests)

they said "high risk" and "probably downs" and started talking about scheduling her for an amnio and abortion.
when she said no... they had a PARADE of medical people telling her how she shoudl get the amnio and "be sure" etc....

she ended up not having medical care for most of her pregnancy because the doctor kept insisting she should get amnio and an abortion if downs was confirmed.

which may be why she miscarried. lack of medical care
