The new development in Sherlock and John's life together meant that things were different, mostly around the flat. Outside the flat, when on cases, Sherlock was not overly affectionate. The only one who truly knew about them, so far, was Mycroft, and he continued to send texts to Sherlock and John both with oh-so-thoughtful warnings and the like. He'd checked up on them, too, and kidnapped John once, so far. Sherlock ignored him, for the most part. Few others knew because when on a case, Sherlock's mind was too busy to be bothered with anything else. Once the case had been solved, things were different, ending up in him practically ripping John's clothing off once they were back at the flat. But that had only been the one time so far, after one particularly engaging case. Sherlock didn't actually sleep in the same bed with John much anymore. After having any sort of sexual relations, he left to either work on experiments or just play his violin into the wee hours of the morning. Other times, he just retreated to his own bed to sleep. He offhandedly told John it was because he needed to think, but it wasn't only that. Sherlock was not used to being in a relationship of this kind with anyone, having been so long just married to his 'work' and abstained from anything physical. This was more than just physical, however - he could tell with all the loving looks John gave him, or the things he said. Even though he had new space for John in his 'mind palace,' that didn't mean he understood every single aspect about this 'thing' they now, apparently, shared, and how it had developed.

Why shouldn't he, then, experiment to figure out what this was, the boundaries, and just how far he could take it? It started out small, in the beginning. Early that morning, while John was, of course, still sleeping, he had continued work on actual experiments. These experiments didn't have a timetable, not really, but that wasn't important. He had been to see Molly yesterday, and the body parts had been put in plastic baggies and left in the freezer, away from food so John wouldn't be bothered. Also collected were bags of ice. So, when John woke up and went to the bathroom for a shower, he would be in for a surprise. Sherlock filled the tub with ice, then took out a few toes, a foot, and a hand, all from a cadaver that had already been in pieces, anyway, and he put these in the ice, some hidden a bit. The kitchen was also cluttered with his experiments - microscope, various slides - much more cluttered than usual. Sherlock himself would be sitting at his chair, behind John's laptop.... reading his friend's email.
