Lots of good things in the news

Terry Shiavo finally passed on. Yes this is a good thing because at least physically she can finally rest. I don't like how she passed on, as staring to death isn't a good way to die. But what people are forgetting is that was really the only way to let her go ( Read more... )

No different than taking her off life support. "But she wasted away starving!!" Would you rather someone commit murder and put a bullet in her head? Lethal injection maybe? Yeah I can just imagine how the American media would take to that.

If I'm that situation, don't let me starve. Pick out one of my guns (preferably a stainless one as it'll clean up easier), lock, load, and put one in my head.

Seriously. I'd rather get a shot, shudder, and kick off than waste away for a few weeks starving and thirsting to death. Active murder, passive murder, right to die, whatever... In the end, if I've got to go I'd appreciate it if they made it quick.

As for the Minutemen Project, I'm... We should talk.

Right, but you're a different kind of guy Mike. And in this situation had someone done that to her they'd be bringing him up on all kinds of charges.

As for the Minutemen, how did I know you'd say that?:)

Well, yes and no. Yeah, I'm a little different-- but most folks I've met agreed that they do not want to linger and die like she did. I'm sure most would not want to be put down like a dog, but most folks don't like the current style of clinical death through removing life support.

In regard to the Minutemen-- perhaps you know me too well. ;-)

Actually thats not the point I was making.

The point being that -had- Mr Shiavo pulled something like that and just ended it quickly there would have been public outcry against him as a murderer. They were already doing that just with the actions taken.

I'm not saying how she went out was any better than what lead up to everything at that point. What I -am- saying however is that was the only means the law gave Mr Shiavo. And he took the only option open to him to finally let his wife go. But had the other option been available, he would have been crucified (litterally) for choosing it.

I totally agree that ending it quickly would have been a more humane way of doing it. But she wasn't a dog and unfortunately that sort of finalization seems only fit for creatures akin to man's best friend.
