[Scene] Franziska and Lana's Discussion in Lana's Office

Jun 13, 2006 21:23

Franziska: *Rapidly knocks in an obnoxious, loud way*
Lana: *glances up from her papers sharply*
Lana: Come in, it's unlocked.
Franziska: *swings door open sharply without a word and storms in, a paper letter crumpled in hand*
Lana: *glances from Franziska's features to the crumpled paper in her hand, and glances to the side with a hint of a smile*
Lana: Good morning, Ms. von Karma. I see that you've received my memo?
Franziska: Yes. May I have a WORD, Ms. Lana Skye?
Lana: *places her papers to the side, and looks serious again* Yes, of course.
Franziska: *drops onto chair loudly*
Franziska: I wanted to address your issues with my 'issues' in person, if you'd be so kind.
Franziska: *slams letter onto desk in a borderline impolite way*
Lana: Ah, yes? *frowns sharply; doesn't jump* ...My, my, what of it, Ms. von Karma?
Franziska: As I have said, apparently you have a problem with my challenge, despite the fact that I do believe that in America, you are democratic, no?
Franziska: Do not all people have a chance to voice their opinions?
Lana: Hmph. *smirks slightly* I would suggest you not bring democracy into the professional sphere. It doesn't always apply in the workplace.
Lana: However...
Lana: You have full right to voice your opinion as a citizen and an individual; *glares* only, you are under orders not to try to use your position in this office to get your way.
Franziska: Me? What about, with all due respect, YOU, Ms Skye.
Franziska: You are fully aware that you are using your position in this whole situation.
Lana: *glances to the side* ...And if I am, hmm?
Lana: I'm afraid your complaints have no force now that Detective Marshall's transfer is vital to the trial and the department itself, and goes quite beyond any personal 'wants.'
Franziska: Oh really now...?
Franziska: I highly, highly doubt it.
Lana: Oh? And what, Ms. von Karma, do you mean by that?
Franziska: Would you really, truly, honestly do the same for any other prisoner? Could you put your personal feelings aside to help any other detainee... say like Mr. Gant...?
Lana: ...
Franziska: Oh, but I'm sorry, I suppose here in America, it would considered unprofessional to question a superiors motives and morals...
Lana: *glances to the side* ...Mr. Damon Gant is not at issue here, and indeed, I don't have to answer you in regards to that. However...
Franziska: I am simply comparing...
Lana: If I said, right now, that I would be impartial on all fronts, what then would you do?
Lana: Simply; you can't do anything unless you prove that I am showing partiality and discrimination against other inmates due to any past history.
Lana: *glares* Isn't that correct...?
Franziska: So what you're saying is...
Franziska: ...No matter what you do, I can't call you on it. No one can.
Lana: No. There are plenty of methods of complaint and appeal my position in this office, and I'm sure you'll discover more than enough ways to circumvent me.
Lana: However, this trial and this issue isn't the place.
Lana: And I suggest you not forget your place as you consider the stakes.
Franziska: I see, threats. Very well.
Lana: Not threats at all.
Lana: Merely a warning.
Franziska: No matter.
Franziska: I am accustomed to this.
Lana: *after a moment* Why, may I ask, are you so set against a change in placement for Detective Marshall? Surely there is no personal effect for you in either regard... it does, however, hold in balance another individual's well being and sanity.
Franziska: As you may have noticed, my family is scrupulous Ms Skye. I don't know why everyone else lets anyone, even their superiors, do as they please.
Franziska: I would call any other person on it. It is nothing personal.
Franziska: It is... my duty.
Lana: Hm.
Lana: *turns slightly to the side* ........I appreciate, Franziska, your adherence to doing what you believe is right. *turns further* ...In fact, it is quite admirable. However...
Lana: You are not correct, and I will not allow you to win this argument, with what is at risk.
Lana: Of course, I don't consider it anything 'personal' either.
Franziska: You claim that it isn't personal, but that there is something great 'at risk'.
Franziska: Ridiculous.
Franziska: You cannot mean to tell me that isn't personal.
Lana: My opposition to you is not. And, an individual's well-being is in threat; regardless of any history, that in itself is what is 'greatly at risk' Ms. von Karma.
Lana: Or do you not hold that any individual's sanity is of any worth?
Franziska: *grits teeth*
Franziska: Why are you avoiding my question? This is ridiculous, we're going in circles!
Franziska: Why would you let someone have a favor over someone else?
Lana: *levelly* Your question is nonsense, Ms. von Karma. I assure you that should I spot such an oversight on the account of any other inmate or detainee, I would take upon the same actions as I have now.
Lana: *more gently* You are idealistic, Franziska. But in this case, your intent is misplaced.
Lana: This is the end of the discussion.
Franziska: ...Hmph.
Franziska: *gets up sharply*
Franziska: Nonsense..? This is nonsense, you are an...
Lana: *rearranges her papers-*
Franziska: with all due respect...
Lana: *looks up*
Lana: Yes?
Lana: I am an...?
Franziska: ...Take this comment as if I am a 'citizen' as you say. You are an emotionally unstable woman; you cannot make impartial decisions.
Franziska: That is all I have to say.
Franziska: May I take my leave?
Lana: ......Hmph. *smirks lightly, but looks off to the side* You may.
Lana: But, Ms. von Karma...
Lana: I'm still expecting that written apology of yours in my inbox, by the end of today.
Franziska: ...*turns around*
Franziska: Of course.
Franziska: *heads towards door*
Lana: Very good.
Franziska: But...
Lana: ....?
Franziska: You and I know both know that as good as it may make you feel, my words will be insincere.
Franziska: Hmmph.
Franziska: Waste of time.
Franziska: *opens door*
Lana: ......
Lana: Good luck with the trial, Ms. von Karma.
Lana: *looks back down at her papers*
Franziska: ...Thank you. If your friend is as innocent as you say he is...
Franziska: I just may need it.
Franziska: *takes leave*
Lana: *frowns deeply at the words and their meaning-the pen she has just picked up scrapes the side of her paper*
Lana: *but after a moment, she begins to write again*
