I want my mommy

So tonight we're talking about what to sign up for once we get to school. "We" is the lovely Elise and the inflatable Justin. Originally, Elise was going to be taking French to thus study abroad in - you guessed it - France, but French is so boring. And pedestrian. Justin never specified an earlier interest in a language, but has now expressed ( Read more... )

A serious answer is to take Spanish. College languages are nothing like high school, and Spanish would be helpful in many locations. I've always thought Japanese would be interesting too. Latin would be cool too.

if you want to do some serious studying, take latin. im not too sure if ill ever get past the first declension, so i dont think ill try latin again until the far far future. :p latin is definitely an entertaining language, though, especially if youre into linguistics and such.

i regret not having taken french in high school because im probably going to concentrate in english. i just dont find french very interesting. :/

choose a language that you find interesting, and think about whatll help you out in the long run. im sticking with espanol. :)

i think its spelled etymology. haha. :p

Latin.. I vote for Latin. anonymous September 8 2002, 01:03:03 UTC
As your suitemate, I say.. take Latin! That way you can suffer right along with me and Jerrod. We can have Latin study time, where not too much studying actually gets accomplished. On a more serious note, I have a friend who's taking Latin at NYU and she was shocked by her second day of class. Apparently she learned more in that one day than she did in at least two years at our school taking French. Her Prof. told them that they'd have to memorize a massive amount if they wanted to do well. That said, I'd still say take Latin. You know whatever language you take at U of C's going to be hard. Why not take a great one like Latin? Spanish is the devil, no matter how helpful it may be..

For the record, I wanted to study Greek because I'm a freak and thought reading Plato in the original would be cool, not the New Testament. Although the New Testament would be impressive, too.

Yes, you must acquiesce with the demands of Nan-C and Jer. jesuisadonis September 8 2002, 16:37:06 UTC
I agree with anonymous nan-C. You have to take Latin with us so you can come to the study parties. French sounds pretty...but aside from that, they're just silly, with the changing words so they sound better, etc. Plus...me and Nan-C....we can't be wrong, silly. Justin's Platoness is silly, because Plato is a big meanie-pants poophead. You must study latin with us...or nan-C will squeak at you effusively.
