I think what impressed me most about The Night Circus was the writing style. At first I thought the language and sentence structures were really simple because it's a YA book (which it turns out it isn't, but I just assumed it was) but after a while I realized how impressive it is how much the author is able to convey in such simple prose. Yes! I felt the same way. I'm usually not a fan of excessive description, but I felt like she handled it perfectly. It wasn't flowery, it was immersive.

Writing style is one of the most important things about a book for me. If I don't love the way it's written, it's really hard for me to get through it. I flew through this book. I loved her ability to create atmosphere. That's really where her talent lies.

I have that same issue with writing style. I had a hard time putting my finger on why I loved this, but you guys are right- it's very descriptive but the prose itself isn't flowery.

I also felt like she did a great job choosing her words. The writing flowed really well - immersive is a great word for it - and it gave me just enough to form my own mental pictures without telling me exactly how everything looked or felt or was.

I felt it was descriptive, but not overly so. It left room for the imagination to still work, which was nice for a book with such an unusual setting.
