Wow. I agree that he's awesome - I love his focus, his drive, his purpose for doing what he does.
The only thing that makes me go 'huh?' is that he said he lost 105 lbs in two and a half months. I backed it up and listened twice more - yup, that's what he said. How...hmm.
that blew me away as well. I've read articles about Goggins before and the math adds up. To drop that much weight in 75 days the caloric deficit has to be around 4,900 calories/day. Considering he biked 20 miles to work each day, was a Navy SeAL at the time and then worked out in his 'down' time I can see it. (Also he's wired to operate on about 2.5 hours of sleep a night so that leaves him a lot more hours in the day to run/swim) I'd imagine he dropped more than that per day in Hell Week, honestly.
But...where did all the skin go? Does the skin shrink, too?
I suppose I've never known anyone who has had such a demanding workout schedule. I've had two friends drop a lot of weight at once (illness, gastric bypass surgery) and both of them wound up with extra skin. Dude here looks pretty taut.
Perhaps I'll just watch it again and stare at his muscles as he runs...a few more viewings and I'm sure to have my answer.
I'm unclear about the point on the skin - I have seen evidence of that on televised shows covering weight loss and heard about it, but never witnessed that first hand. I once dropped 35 lbs in less than 3 weeks and had zero "looseness" afterward - same with my roommate at the time who was going through the same course. In 2005 I dropped 60 lbs in 6 months and still none of that stuff you see on shows like The Biggest Loser. I think you have to be REALLY big for that to occur... I suspect the skin just adapts to the present condition. This is just my best guess though - I'm not a doctor and it's not like there's some easily-accessible corpus of knowledge that we could use to answer this query. If only we had a complex series of pipes and tubes by which to access information with these 'computing engines.'
