Worst run, ever... (without getting injured)

Moments before taking off on today's long run - the first long run I've done in 3 weeks - I end up getting pulled into this low-level flame-war drama between (real-world) activist friends of mine as the charity I'm running for doesn't have the Humane Seal of Approval. Good is not the opposite of perfect. The good in what you are doing (for yourself, for cancer research, for inspiring slugs to get up off of their butts and do something) - it sure puts up a good fight against the downsides that your friends see. And that they chose -for some weird reason - to bring up.

When you are not focusing on things like this...what DO you think about when you run? Do you bliss out and just GO? Do you think about the mechanics of what you are doing (breathe, breathe, step, turn, squirrel, step, step, etc.), or what?

When I run, I tend to try to list things that I think I have forgotten. I spent most of last summer trying to name every country in the world in my mind while training for the 5k.
