A few months ago when Facebook and AOL announced a partnership between the two companies, I missed the synergistic moment. I was probably just shocked that AOL still existed - I can't recall any time in the last six or seven years when someone has actually given me their e-mail address and it ended @aol.com--but the synergy struck earlier this ( Read more... )

Good, so we can move on to something more important. Like how on earth sweet tea becomes a cultural enemy.

1) Its simply a sugar delivery vehicle that deserves substantial recognition on thisiswhyyourfat.com 2) It gets incrementally sweeter every year. 3) Its the official drink of most any Trailer Park . 4) Most people around here call it "Sweee-Tea" and add a half syllable to the "tea" part (see: Libarry"). 5) Every time I partake, I feel the thickening of my blood into syrup-like viscosity 6) Down here, I find, it is viewed as the "healthy" alternative to soda, which I find utterly ridiculous. I have met entirely too many people here who admit--out loud and without shame--that they won't drink water. (worst excuse ever: "Fish fuck in it" -B. Keller, 2001) 7) I'm quite fond of the Commonwealth traditions involving tea... less Victorian ones, mind you, than proletarian expressions involving tea. In Australia in the 1940s and 50's, trains would stop in the middle of nowhere around 10:15 and 3pm, the engineers would hop off, start a quick fire using a coal or two from under the boiler, get some water ready and enjoy a quick smoke-o ( ... )
