I am a Correctional Officer. I work a high stress job in a maximum security prison that the state of Florida that pays $30,000-ish per year to certified officers. The county in which I live has a county jail where certified officers start at $38,000. For some reason, the FDOC cannot comprehend why we are losing staff at an alarming rate to county

Many correctional officers are as crude and nutty as the prisoners. It is a case of the keepers being worse than the kept. Get a college degree and get out of there before it sucks the life out of you.

Sadly that's no lie. I know many officers who have worked so long that they've become "institutionalized" and pick on staff for giggles much like some inmates.
