what the fuck is this world coming to?

I am very upset today. What may well be the deadliest school shooting (surpassing the most recent horrible shooting at Columbine) in the history of the US just happened at MY old college this morning. These things are always supposed to happen elsewhere, aren't they? Hell, some of the shootings took place in the dorm building where me, dracoshen and _crail lived ( Read more... )

Yeah. And there was a bombing in Bath, MI back in the 1920s that had more deaths, but that wasn't a shooting. This isn't exactly a "claim to fame" I want Tech to have.

I thought of yourself and lostdog when I heard the news. Good gods, I'm so sorry.

Words from others who are feeling as shocked as you.

They're saying at least 29 are dead. And yeah, when I visited VA Tech it definitely felt extremely safe, which is what always makes random occurrences like this all the more insane.

It's just totally fucked up, man. I actually really like Virginia Tech, and it really sucks to see it in the news like this.

I wasn't a big fan of the campus by any stretch to be honest, but a bunch o' friends went there (yourself included) which easily made it worth visiting. It's just the LAST place you'd think shit like that would go down. Then again, that's pretty much how this sort of thing always goes.

Oh, there's absolutely NOTHING to do there at all, but it's a nice campus and a good school. It's not the kind of place I'd want to spend my life, but for five years it was kinda nice. And yeah, this really drives home the idea that this shit really can happen ANYWHERE. You can't predict it or prevent it, so why live in fear?

I'm sorry. That's all I can think to say right now.

That's the first thing anyone has said in my memory that has ever made me speechless!

...yes, that was a lame way to try and cheer you up.

Yeah, I'm sorry too. And I don't think I SHOULD be cheered up right now exactly, you know?
