the beatles

Don't ask me why it took me so long, but I recently decided to start checking out The Beatles. I think it all started when I watched Pleasantville a month or so ago, and I got the wonderful Fiona Apple cover of "Across the Universe" stuck in my head. And that's when I realized I've been missing out on some good shit. I've heard a ton of their songs ( Read more... )

Hey Jude is a personal favorite of mine (and was actually used in the show we just did), but I think my top two are "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Eight Days A Week"

I would say "Something," but that's really more of a Harrison vehicle than a Beatles song, IMHO. As for the others, it depends on my mood, but I still come back to "Come Together." I love the funky groove and the fact that after all this time I *still* can't remember the words right.

"Something" was my wedding song and still one of my favorites. I've always had a thing for George over the rest of them tho.

I'd have to say next to that, um all of the white album and all of Sgt Peppers, oh and all of Rubber Soul too.

Eleanor Rigby has always been a favorite of mine. Don't ask me why.

Freakin' word, yo. Bring on the stringed musical instruments.

I only own Abbey Road (! shame), and my favorite tracks on that are always paired together: Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight

Is it 'car listening on the way to camping' music? Maybe?

"Love Me Do"

Though the world being so inundated with "The Beatles are genius" triggered my anti-hype reaction years back and has left me unable to listen to the Beatles objectively. And I've never really been a fan of "psychedelic" music, so much of their later work just doesn't appeal to me.

I figure this means there is something wrong with me or just marks me as contrary.

Oh man, it varies depending on when you ask me, but I'd have to say I Am the Walrus, Penny Lane, Across the Universe, and In My Life. When I was 21, I went to Liverpool and took the Magical History Tour--we saw all the childhood homes, I went to Penny Lane, and took a picture in front of Strawberry Field. The Beatles aren't my all-time favorite band (XTC is), but they're up there. Enjoy 'em!
