if I were you, I would file a civil claims suit and tell the judge to order PetCo to reimburse you for all medical costs and that they should pay for everything. Stupid corporations, thinking that they can get away from everything and think that they are above the law.

Sounds alot like an insurance company after a car wreck. They want you to use thier autobody shops and thier technicians because its cheaper for them, but at least in California you can take it to any place you want to have it repaired. There should be a law like that for pets, yknow? If these bills fall within thier 15 day policy Id certainly try that approach and perhaps youll be the pioneer to bring that law about. Pets deserve the best care they can get, just like people.

Id still take them to small claims court regardless of if youd win or lose. Perhaps they will decide that the cost of trying to go to court with you would be much more than you are asking for and they'll decide itd just be cheaper to just pay you off out of court. Even if they do go to court youll have the satisfaction of knowing you are making them spend money on this.

hey check out the second paragraph of this, which I pulled off the web. Id find out more about this and claim this to be the reason you did not return to the store for care.

The thing they are throwing up at me, is the fact that all of my bills came AFTER the 15 day policy.
Bought the rat on June 16th.
At the vet the first time June 19th, no charge. Full recovery from pneumonia.
Back at the vet August 7th, 9th, 21st, 23rd, September 2nd, 7th, and 9th.

Lesse... They sell you a rat that, within 3 days, had contracted a serious case of pneumonia, no matter the outcome. Even if you're a rat, the incubation period of pneumonia cannot seriously be less than three days, proving they (in business terms) sold you a defective prduct (I hate to think of Toki, or any rat, in those terms, but it kind of is what they would proffer up in court). That still deserves a trip to court. Besides, it's PetCo, they need a good tongue lashing ( ... )
