what i do to try and shed time off my times is have some music set your pace. then i run the same course and the same tunes and try and set points in the coarse that i have to get to before it comes up to a point in the songs. it helps to go M-Band on your running and have your foot hit on the beats. have different playlists for different places and distances, and how hard you want to run and all that. and i try and keep my mind off running when i'm running. i'll chew gum and think in my head different time signitures i usually try to go between 5/4, 9/8, 4/4 with triple-its or just think up a little running song i'll hum to myself (TREES, PEOPLE, ALL WALKING, HAHAHA, PASSED, PASSED,). mind over matter stuff. periodic table, layers of the earth, order of the planets, spelling things backwards, what your going to do later in the week. something i always do is mars volta's has a song on their cd thats, for me, a perfect 6 minute mile pace. i'll start myself with that and try to keep on beat for the time that it runs (its not a 6 minute ( ... )
