A Witch's Home, 20 January

How odd to have these again, after so long. They only remind me of good friends that I used to talk to, that I won't be able to now. (Also, I'm very afraid I will learn a good deal more about my daughter than is healthy for a mother to know.) I'm afraid that it crept its way into my column this week as well. I don't feel quite ready to put any ( Read more... )

Were your holidays really like this? Tell me they weren't. Please.

Oh. And hello, An.

Hello, Xiomara.

Really that domestic or really that melancholy? You've been here often enough to know that the column isn't precisely my life, at least in terms of priorities. As for the melancholy, well, I confess that the arrival of the journals put me in a mood. I was never sure why I was chosen to have one the first time 'round, and I'm even less sure why I have one now as I am an old married mother now . . .

And how were your holidays? You really should come here one year for Christmas, we would love to have you.

I thought I knew, but you were going on and on about snowfall and I got worried.

And you will never be old.

My holidays were a whirlwind of parties. Would you believe I left my diamond brooch at the PM's house? SUCH a faux pas.

I am so glad you allow me to live your glamourous life, vicariously! A whirlwind of parties? Anyone I would care for?

There isn't much snow. Not old? Tell that to my children. They are grown, or nearly so. It's very odd, that.

Hello young dragon tamer.

I will leave the questions about your intentions toward my daughter for my husband, as he can be much more frightening than I can, but I will say that she is a very nice girl with a good head on her shoulders and a long career ahead of her and I would like to see it stay that way.

So where do you see yourself in five years then? Ten?

Don't worry, Andromeda, my Charlie is extremely well behaved and responsible -- except for that tattoo, but everyone has their youthful indiscretions.

You should stop by for a cup of tea, and we can have a little talk. It'd be a good idea for us to get to know each other better, don't you think?

I agree. I should be in England in a few weeks time to meet with my editors. Perhaps we could meet then? I was hoping to schedule some time with my daughter but that one is a moving target, I'm afraid.

Hello sweetheart.

Now, Nymphadora, if you know the proper word for something you should call it by its name. There is a great deal of power in a name and you would do well to remember that. But yes, it is "nifty" if mainly because it means I won't have to badger you to send us more frequent owl posts.

Why is your hair like that? It can't be comfortable to sleep on.

Is this Charlie person making you happy? I don't want you getting carried away with yourself. Though he does seem like a nice young man, and you could do worse than the Weasleys.
