Beautiful, Jess. Just what I imagined you might write. I never knew much about him, but the fantasy lifestyle and alienness I've always identified with as well, and I think we harbor the same distaste to put it lightly, in how people are treating his death. I shudder at the media's attempts to put attention on something intimate and end up butchering it, but even more disturbing to me is how people quickly dismiss it saying such things like, "no but really, I'm glad he's gone." When he isn't intimate to any of the commentators, more than likely, as anything more than symbolic, or representative only the jokes and the negativity resonate with them.

I hate thinking about how many celebrities deaths we are going to have to hear about repeatedly over our lifetimes (granted we live long enough ourselves) and have to endure all the disrespectful and over-played reactions.

Wonderful words. Given the volume of the self-serving expressions of sorrow that have been 'shared', this really does stand out in terms of honesty and sincerity.

=(

I was working when I found out. A coworker ran up and told me. I remember I just stared at her dumbly. I had no clue as to what was happening because I had been at work all day. It was a shock to me, and I think for some reason she was pleased she surprised someone to that extent with the bad news. She was smiling. I wanted to punch her in the face.
