my friend jason had a similar bike when he bought his first one. then he upgraded to a newer, faster Triumph sport bike; i think he either has a daytona or the tiger. he likes to go fast.
that is indeed a sweet bike. i saw someone riding a "big" triumph this week, and Wow, did it look and sound good. is there much of a price diff between the enfields and a triumph? and of course, i've loved the big BMWs from long long ago. a dutch guy living in our little town drove one, and it had a mighty sound... i'm talking a fifties model now. sweet, sweet machines those old BMWs i bet the new ones aren't half bad either
I love almost all old bikes. They all have this style that I just can't see in a lot of the bikes out there. There are so many street bike clones and none stand out like I want them too. If I'm going to ride a bike around town I want it to be one that causes people to look twice and not out of sheer terror.
But I'm in college and not allowed to think about spending money on toys... So this will go down not as a toy but as an alternative means of picking up hot... transportation to work and school.
The Enfields are round 5K, the Triumphs 8K, and the BMW's (Some very nice BMW's out there) are a bit more I think.
I could shoot for a used Triumph or BMW... but I think I want my first motorcycle to be mine. All mine. Also there's the comfort with a new bike that everything will work and that I'll spend more time on it then under it.
So Enfield fits the most categories. Style, Affordability, unusual enough to be talked about, and new.
Final decision to be made when I hit the showroom in a month or two.
then you will love the new movie just come out called "The Fastest Indian" or some such ... about an old new zealander, solitary bugger with an obsession, who decided to go for the world's record speed on a motorbike. and he did it too, on a 20s Indian, heavily - but HEAVILY - rebuilt and tweaked by himself. sounds like an excellent movie, with hopkins at his best. the repro bike they built to film the movie is on display in sydney this month, at a specialist shop.
