This isnt a political statement necessarily...I just thought it was super interesting because we learned about it in O-Chem the other day. Its sorta long, but if you stick with it, I think its really interesting at the end what you can figure out :) (I tried to shorten it up by cutting examples ( Read more... )

"its a scary thought, expecially when its difficult to estimate just how much there is left in there :)"

We do have some idea:

Now, keep in mind, this is only Arabia we're talking about. Mexico recently found a source in the Gulf that is LARGER than the supply in Arabia.

Yeah I understand your point and I agree that eventually, we will run out. But that's a long way away, so in the meantime we'll have plenty of time to find another source of energy that works just as well.

I always forget that petroleum is also found in plastics and other materials/chemicals. It's a good thing to keep in mind :)

Please Note:
-Figures come from the Saudis and Exxon Mobile, who dont want us to panic
-The use of "decades",ie atleast 20 years but certainly not centuries
-"New oil fields", "other sources", and "expansions with future technology" all mean oil that right now is difficult or impossible to get, and only when we become more desperate and prices rise higher will these sources become economically feasible. A nice example is deep-offshore drilling or the oil sands in Canada, where acres of sand are dug out, powerwashed and the oil is removed.

we need to find ourselves more DINOSAUR PLANETS.. the planet of the dinosaurs.. that would totally be covered in oil fields.. from the dead dinosaurs.. and no one would complain about building oil fields on dinosaur infested land because no one likes dinosaurs.. they arent pretty like caribou and they kill people! In conclusion I say death to more dinosaurs and yes to petroleum jelly to make my smile brighter

the go bush was for shock value, as it had nothing to do with the rest of what I was saying :P that and I miss the days of Johns entries

I love that pic, though..

..and forserious there was no reason to bring bush into it at all..

Yes, and the reason the flood happened in the first place was that the predominantly liberal/corrupt governments of Louisiana and New Orleans didn't see it fit to keep the levees structurally sound. They were too busy lining their pockets with the future blood money of their citizens.

I misread the article I read on Mexico's oil supply. Actually, the find will double Mexico's current supply. Even though it isn't as big as I originally said, it's still a very big find, considering Mexico is one of our biggest suppliers of oil (next to Canada and Saudi Arabia).
