Depends on what you want to do Greenwich village has some great places - spotted pig for a meal, san ambroseous for gelato, dave's quality meat for clothes
just north of times square on broadway, there is a two storey m&m shop
williamsburg has some great bars, but for $3 beer you can't beat jimmy's on 44th street
if you are in the museum area, go to zabars on west 80th for breakfast - it is awesome there
Thanks very much! Luckily I have a few friends out there but they all work in the same fields as I do, which is cool but it means they don't really have much time to hang out :(
