pairing: kris/chanyeol

summary: it was in the middle of the night and kris was preparing himself without chanyeol knowing.

a/n: don't kill me.

Kris stared at the sleeping form beside him. He slowly stretched one arm out and stroked the other’s hair, careful as to not waking the other. He leaned closer and planted a soft but long kiss on the younger’s forehead.

“Sorry,” he mumbled as he pulled away from the other, slowly he moved away from the bed and looked at his lover for the last time. He didn’t know how long it would take until he could meet the younger again. Scratch that, he didn’t even know whether he could meet him again or not.

He moved to their shared wardrobe and took his suitcase, putting it on the floor next to him. Kris could easily spot his clothes, monochrome in between the colorful clothes the younger had. He took his clothes one by one, making sure that he didn’t leave any behind, and put them in the suitcase neatly.

He looked back into the wardrobe before deciding to take one of his lover’s favorite clothes along with him for a memento. He took the white shirt with small red stripes on it and chuckled lightly as he remembered their time together.

“Hyung,” the boy tugged his sleeve slightly. “Buy me ice cream~!”

Kris scoffed and shook his head no. “No, Chanyeol.”

Chanyeol pouted and tugged on his sleeve harder. “Please?” he begged, puffing his cheeks slightly. He knew for a fact that the older man couldn’t deny him from what he wanted.

The older finally succumbed and Chanyeol clapped his hands gleefully, walking toward the ice cream parlor. As they got in, Kris waited near the cashier while the younger scanned the flavors one by one. He asked for some testers before finally deciding for strawberry and chocolate-chip mint ones.

Right after Kris paid for the treat, he walked up to the older and kissed him on the cheek, his own way for saying thanks to the older man. They reached each other hand and intertwined their fingers as they walked out of the parlor.

Luck might not be on Chanyeol’s side that day, for not five minutes later his ice cream fell onto his shirt, dirtying it. He groaned and puffed his cheeks, not because the shirt was dirty, but more to the fact that the fallen piece was almost a half of the whole scoop.

Kris laughed at his younger lover’s childishness and took a tissue to dab on the stain. Seeing that the stain won’t leave easily, he unbuttoned and told the younger to take his shirt off, leaving him in his plain white t-shirt, much to Chanyeol’s chagrin and folded it before putting it into his bag. In turn, he took his jacket off and gave it to his boyfriend.

“Here, it’s not all that clean, but at least it’s better than wearing a stained shirt, right?”

Chanyeol’s face broke into one of the widest smile Kris had ever seen.

Kris folded the shirt and put it on the top of his piled clothes.

He looked around and started to take each of his belongings one by one. The wrist watch on the bedside table, the books in the shelf, the small plushie Chanyeol had given him on his birthday, he made sure that there was nothing that belonged to him would be left behind.

Kris glanced around for the last time before closing his suitcase. The apartment which was once filled with his and Chanyeol’s things now was half empty. His heart was also in the same condition.

“You must go home,” his mother’s voice was clear, the tone she used made him understand that there was nothing to be discussed about.

“I can’t,” he replied, just like he had for what seemed like hundredth of times.

He knew that his father’s health condition had dropped yet again and that he had to take control of what was happening in their company since he was the oldest son. But it didn’t mean that he could leave South Korea as easy as that, he had his own life there. In Canada, people knew him as the heir of a big company, while in South Korea he was known as himself, as Kris Wu, the brilliant foreign student in Business major. And he had Chanyeol.

He could care less with his studies, seeing that having a degree was more like a formality for him. But one thing, or one person to be exact, that he couldn’t leave behind was Chanyeol. Being together with him for more than a year made him realize that he couldn’t live without the other man by his side.

He knew that Chanyeol wouldn’t be able to leave South Korea. His whole family, friends, life was there. He didn’t want the younger man to sacrifice himself just for him.

He could hear his mother gulping before she spoke again. “Your father doesn’t want you to know this,” she said, her voice shook a bit. Kris furrowed his eyebrow, he never heard his mother spoke like that, not even once in his whole life. “But…”

Her next words made him felt like the world crashing down around him.

Slowly, he approached the bed and climbed on top of it.

He moved closer toward his lover and swept the stray hairs out of the beautiful face.

Chanyeol was beautiful, even more now that it was illuminated by the pale moonlight.

Kris looked at him lovingly and planted a small peck on his lips. “I love you,” he whispered before he walked away, out of their shared apartment.

Out of Chanyeol’s life.
