Owning a house for me is different. It is something that only appreciates in value over time and it is tangible.Yes and No, and this is the lie that has caused such ire and distress within the USA, Nobody believed the market could go down and homes always appreciate. No, its LAND not homes that appreciates ( ... )

The housing market in Canada is a little different then in the US. There are no such things as HOA's and I am very grateful for us dodging that bullet. I would also never in a million years buy a condo, as that is just HOA lite, and I would never want to be in that position ever. I know that there are cases where homes can lose their value, but it is never the same as the values lost by other major purchases.. My truck when it was brand new came in somewhere around $90k from the dealership.. I can right now get about $2000 for it at the maximum.. No house would ever lose that much of a percentage of value over the span of 13 years like my truck has ( ... )

glad to knoow that HOAs are not here in Canada. Yeah I have heard nightmares about people losing their homes because they got fined to death by the HOA for stupid infractions and the courts backed the HOA since all they can do is enforce contracts.

I know our dream is eventually to get a property outside the city where we can house horses.

I hear you there; I want to buy a house, too, soon-ish. However, Montreal house prices are insane and it will take many years before I can afford one...

Though I still want to move to Ontario eventually... So we will see where that leads me (hopefully, down the path to home ownership.).

*snugs* you can do it, bear. :3

I am sure that eventually you will be able to find something reasonable soon.. If you come to Ontario you may end up with a bit better of a deal hon.

*snuggles and licks a pup*

Hey mate, I can relate to the feeling. Good luck getting back ontop of your debts, i'm slowly trying... though im doing silly things in-between like going to the USA!

House ownership is for the most part, Solid. It's also a nice feeling to know it's YOUR house. *chuckles* I'm glad to see you've still got that fire in you mate, and i know you'll be able to achieve anything you put your mind to! *hughug*

You're a smart burr!

Awww, does that mean you won't want to come and live here when I buy a place? :(

It's kinda been on the back of my mind for a while but I don't see how I'll be able to afford a mortgage living alone. I plan to move back to Halifax eventually where the market is a little better, but somehow I think I'll still be renting until I get my first command and that could take several years...
