I loved that you used outsider POV for most of this. Wonderfully chilling image of the bloody footprints, and we, and the outsider, get to use our imaginations to fill in those horrible blanks. Nice job!

Thanks! I read that prompt several times and loved it but didn't have any particular inclination to write...and then I got the idea for the outsider POV, and it pretty much wrote itself. So glad it worked for you!

You know, this makes me think about all the poor cleaning people who have to deal with a motel room after the Winchesters have been there--a POV I never thought of before! Yikes!

I'd bet they probably clean up pretty well most of the time (hunters need to cover their tracks, and all that) - but sometimes, there's just too much of a mess and there are more important things to worry about (like "where are the bottoms of Dean's feet?" *shudder*). There should probably be a support group for all the janitorial staff who've been traumatized by the aftermath of Winchesters.

This is a beautiful slice-of-life fic. With the added bonus of the Winchester boys. A hurt Dean, a caring Sam. You don't use many words, but it's right there. He isn’t sure if the response is a word, or just pain. That really says it all, doesn't it? And this Sam swallows rage, feeling sick is such a neat, concise and perfect description of Sam. No need to say more.

I like this short moment between Sam and Dean so much because it's a variation of one of my favourite Sam moments - when he stands there like a five year old confessing to Dean that he lost his shoe in Bad Day At Black Rock. That moment was so funny. And opposed to that the horror of purgatory that you convey amazingly in the few words Dean’s eyes freeze over... Man, the horrors he must see in front of his inner eye! I don't remember. Yeah, right ( ... )

I think one of my favorite parts of writing caring Sam is that delicate balance between anger and compassion. One half of him is all loving, watchful guardian, and the other half just wants to punch his big brother in the face and yell at him to take care of himself for once. It's a fun dynamic to work with.

Oh, I'm so, so pleased you picked up on the Bad Day at Black Rock echo: usually I'm dead against repeating jokes from the show, but I wrote that without thinking, and then really liked the disturbing contrast between puppy!Sam and Dean fresh from Purgatory. (Oh, I've not even begun to tap the vast mysterious mine of horror that is Purgatory...might not even mind the hiatus, with that one yawning in front of me all ready to play with. *plots ( ... )

Creepy! I'd be suitably freaked out if I saw that 0_o I like how it's partly outsider POV. Nicely done! :)

Thanks! I was a mite freaked out myself, writing it....foot injuries, agghhh. And mystery blood is never a good thing to see on your floor.

Glad you liked it!
