Holy crap. D: NZ universities are a lot cheaper, but with grades like yours I don't think you'd wanna come here.

I'd have to apply internationally, anyway, and that's usually more expensive than what you have to lmao

Have you considered .... I mean, it all depends on the programs you're interested in, but there are some FANTASTIC programs in states where, even though you'd be paying out of state tuition, you'd still be paying so much less than what you've got listed even WITHOUT financial aid... I mean, just a couple of months ago in the admissions office where I work, we were looking up the tuition of big name schools, just because, and we were falling out of our chairs laughing at how ridiculously expensive tuition can be other places.

Just a thought.

Interestingly enough, I did have a talk with a friend's mother about something like that today, about how there are a bunch of schools in the Midwest that are literally accepting everyone who applies and giving them huge grants as incentive because everyone overlooks them. Now, if I intended to go into something more liberal arts oriented, I don't think I would mind attending one of those for undergrad.

The thing about going to a small-name school is that I likely won't be able to work with as many great professors as I could at one with a larger name. Considering I want to do a science programme at all costs, that's the most imperative thing, I think.

I'm in a financial position where, due to my lower middle class status, I can't get a lot of aid from public schools, but private schools will probably give me quite a bit.

It's a good idea, I suppose, but I think I would just feel rather alienated because I'm Asian.

I'm not even talking about the midwest schools who accept everyone, but like... University of Utah for example has a really really good medical program.

And any school you check out you could ask about their demographics for diversity. And even just... with that, too, at my school there's a predominant religion and 85% of our student body is that religion, but it doesn't really feel that way, it sort of feels half and half. But most schools have recruiters who specialize in diversity and coud give you specs on what a campus's feel is like. And idk but it's my personal belief that half of the feeling of alienation is a personal choice, because it can happen even if you're in a group of people who are your exact same race/religion/age.

But ultimately the most important thing is that you choose a college that you fall in love with, otherwise it's not worth it and won't be the amazing experience that it can be when you really have fallen in love with a school.

lol UCs are kind of fucked in terms of funding. Most people can't graduate in 4 years cuz of issues with getting classes, and fees keep rising year by year.

Good luck with your aid yo. I got zilch in financial aid (need based) and I had to go to the school that gave me the most merit based money. AKA USC. Don't regret it one bit though, it's awesome here :D

Ugh, I know. My cousin at Cal's graduating this year, thank God for her, but her younger sister is in a way more tenuous situation, both because her debt keeps mounting up and because Cal has never been the place for her.

and T_T I will need that luck.

Like I tweeted at you, don't let money be an issue. :/

Also, UC dorms suck. My cousins at Cal rent an apartment about a block away from campus and they don't have to pay that much. Annnnd normal NorCal (i.e. NOT SAN FRANCISCO) is a bitch during the summer.
